I recently started working for them, and I gotta say, what a great company.

if you're against starbucks cause it crushes smaller coffee shops, I can understand that, or if you think their coffee is a little overroasted (I still like it though)

but they are really awesome. they give all employees, even part timers, the same benefits as managers which includes health care. they purchase as much fair trade coffee as they can. there really isn't much around because it costs 40k to become fair trade certified. but their pike place coffee adheres to the same standards.

they will match any donation an employee makes to charity dollar for dollar. also, if you do any volunteering for charity, they will donate 10 bucks for every hour. also they provide opportunities to buy stock at a discount, and give you discounts at many other stores, including barnes and noble.

their training program is hands down, the best I've seen. I've worked in 2 other coffee shops. if you've ever worked in one, their espresso machine (at least the one we have) pulls shots by pressing a button, and automatically steams milk.

normally i try to support non-chains but I definitely don't feel bad supporting this one.

dude

i fucking hated working for starbucks. i worked at a coroporate store in vancouver last year and i hated it. i mean, i really enjoyed the people that i worked with, but i was getting paid $9/hr to do SO much work.

when i started i really liked it, and i thought it was fun. but then it got repetitive and annoying. and the customers were such assholes if you didnt make their drink right. i got written up and talked to because i sat down during my cashout. and then i was about $4.45 under and they made me watch security tapes becuase they thought i was stealing money when one of the $2500 espresso machines was missing.

then i moved over to working at the starbucks on grouse. and it was rad. not busy, totally slack, great people. and no more waking up at 4:30 to get to work by 5. it was rad. AND THEN THEY DECIDED TO GO CORPORATE. i was already agetting paid $11/hr to do exactly what i was doing at my old starbucks. when they went corporate, it was my old store all over again. i got written up because my balck shoes had white soles. i got a really low mark on my secret shopping because we didnt have any whipping cream.

but thats my two cents and i do know lots of people who love it, but i definatly do not miss coming home and stinking like rotten milk and stale coffee.

unless you're a waiter or working somewhere you can make good tips, you're a sucker.

but starbucks is def a legit franchise, props and work hard and you will prob move up the ladder
