being a sabres fan i was just wondering who thinks their team has a chance at beating the sabres out in the playoffs or finals

Id say quite a few seing the string of injuries the Sabres have had, and besides, theyre hardly unbeatable.

Id say San Jose and Anaheim have a good chance.

Yea the Sabres really have a good chance to take it this year. But watch out for teams like the Ducks, the Sharks and the predators.

sabres have been number one all year, and also depsite all the injuries the sabres have won 10 of their last 13 games including a overtime loss. the predators are do not concern me, same with the ducks, the finals will be sharks and sabres

by any means i do not expect the cup will be handed over to us and the playoffs be a walk down easy street but in a seven game series no team can skate with the sabres, not beeing cocky

ya go penguins!!! i dont think they have much of a chance, but Crosby is my hero...I think Detroit has a good chance, especially with Bertuzzi if he gets helathy, been a detroit fan my whole life, hopefully they can pick up another cup!

OTTAWA or pittsburg in playoffs.

nashville, vancouver, san jose, anaheim in finals

your duski

Sabres all the way.

trading biron wasnt a good idea, but at least it wasn't to a contender.

fuck the senators

Dude, Buffalo is missing some key components to make the cup. They are fast, skilled, have great goaltending and great depth everywhere. They DO NOT have some role players like 3rd line grinders (those people you love in the playoffs) they just have another line that can score. They are also without a shot blocker on defense. Every conference finalist in recent memories had a player who always went down to block a shot.

Nasvhille has its chances, Anaheim has the potential to really rape everybody in the next few years, Pittsburgh and New Jersey are real wild cards too.

And by the way, Ottawa has Buffalo's number. Last season was totally different, but this sens team if they are all on their games, can beat any team in 5 games or less. The times they have been at their best, no team could manage 15 shots in the entire game (Holding Buffalo to l6 in one game, and Vancouver to 0 in 1 fucking period!)

The funny thing is the regular season doesn't mean shit. Ask the Senators, or any of the countless other teams who have done great in the regular season and bombed in the playoffs. Like someone else said, you gotta have the "behind-the-scenes" players (shot-blockers, grinders, ect.), not just a team full of agile goal scorers.

Oh, and Go Wild!

We haven't been #1 all year, someone surpased us for a few weeks. But yea, I'm a Sabres fan, and I think we have a pretty good shot. Andd, the Sens are gay. THank you.

I like how last year all you sabres fans were non-existent, then in the playoffs suddenly everybody's a sabres fan. You're just hitching on the bandwagon.

No shot blocker, no gritty 3rd liners, they won't win the cup.

almost every game was sold out in the regular season last year and we have 14000 season ticket holders this year and every game sold out less than a month into this season. and the conferance finals in carolina were were 50 percent sabres fans, so im not what you think you are talking about.

lyndman and tallinder block many shots, watch last thursdays game vs ottawa if you think there is "no gritty players", and besides the sabres have 4 lines that can bee considered 2end lines on any team if not better, every line can score

Make no mistake, the Sabres are pretty seasoned at losing too when it counts. They follow the same lead as the Bills.

I went to a sens game last year... march 24th vs. ottawa. the place had soo many empty seats. On top of that outside the building there were actually more sens jerseys than buffalo jerseys before the game and about 25% of the fans inside were sens fans. The fans there are deffinetly bandwagoners. People say ottawa's fans are quiet, heres some news for you, check them out in buffalo. They were actually dead silent until they thought they were cheated a goal in the second period. The sens fans there were making more noise then them. Im sure ottawa will beat buffalo this year in a 7 game series. As everyone is saying their team is brittle look at the injuries they have. They dont have the grit ottawa now has (which is what will let them go further these playoffs) We have neil who is leading the league in hits (YES the one on Drury was clean!) and volchenkov is around 5th in the league in hits too, not to mention #1 in the league in blocked shots. Heatley is even playing more aggressively this season, throwing hits and has become a dominant TWO way player. Shubert is also a key player for us. he hits a lot, blocks shots with a strong physical game. Let alone he can play defence or forward. We have more depth at defence too and two proven goalies. I honestly think any of ottawa's 6 defencemen would be top 2 on buffalo. Ottawa in 6 max

thats because buffalo season ticket holders sell their tickets to toronto and ottawa games to pretty much pay for their season tickets for the whole season and use the money for playoff games, its cheaper for toronto fans to buy tickets from a scalper at 4x what they are worth and get a hotel for one night in buffalo than it is to go to a home game in toronto

Fuck the senators. I am so sick of hearing Ottawa people run their mouths like you have some sort of dynasty. You get to talk the year after you win... not before.

Any team can beat Buffalo if their goalie plays well enough. Hell, Vancouver could with Bobby Loo on his game like he's been. But most likely contenders:

Detroit: Top line is Datsyuk and Zetterberg, 2nd line is Lang and Bertuzzi, third line is Maltby and Draper. Skill, power forwards, grinders. That's built for playoffs. Not to mention having a ridiculous blue line / pp setup.

Sharks: Thornton Marleau Cheechoo Guerin and young guys. They have size and skill, and steady, if not spectacular, goaltending. Defense might not be the deepest, but they win.

Dallas: Depth at the forward position was notable BEFORE Ladislav Nagy, now it might be the best in the conference. Plus they have Lehtinen Morrow and Ott, a great core of defensive forwards. Zubov and Boucher make for an excellent PP blue line. Turco needs to step up in the playoffs, that's all.

Nashville: ONLY if Forsberg and Vokoun play well. They're not as steady as the standings indicate and they could topple. If everyone plays to potential they're much better than the Sabres.

Anaheim: Neidermayer and Pronger. Basically. Pronger did it for Edmonton last year, now he has help.

New Jersey: Marty Brodeur is the aforementioned goalie who can win any series singlehandedly if he plays as he can.

If the sabres win, it'll be at least in part because the western conference playoffs are going to be a war, and whoever staggers out of that will be worn down considerably.

My 2 Cents here,

From watching the east i'm not as impressed as watching the teams in the west, dont get me wrong there are some great teams in the east! I seem to see more passion, drive and depth in the teams from the western confrence. The race is so close, even teams like Colorado have only lost one game to Nashville, and Anaheime, which if i had to chose would be the two teams that would be up to win the cup, in actuality, anyone in the west from rankings 1-10 besides dallas and vancouver could win the cup in my opinion.

In the east, i see Montreal, Pittsburgh, and New Jersy standing out as far as overall team skills to me. Again just my opinion, and do think someone from the west will win.

Wow...I havent been following hockey at all this year really, last year too. Ever since the lockout I havent really been following hockey the game's just not the same, even though the rule changes they made were pretty slight.

i want the Canadians obviously, but id say buffalo is out in the conference finals to either Ottawa or New Jersey

Word. The Western Conference is so much better than the East this year. Last year too, I mean c'mon, the 5th-8th seeds won in the first round. But like you said, whoever comes out of the West is gonna be considerably beat up and the team that comes out of the East won't be.

West:

Detroit... My favourite to win the cup. They're built to absolutely ease through the playoffs, especially with their ability to completely limit the opposition's scoring opporunities. If opposing teams will be firing the puck at Hasek 20 times a night, opposing teams won't stand a chance. That, coupled with the fact that

San Jose... The Sharks' scoring punch could KO nearly any team in the league. Could is the keyword. They employ a reliable defensive system as well, so watch out for San Jose throughout the late stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.

Vancouver... Roberto Luongo is the next Martin Brodeur, and the Sedin twins have been outstanding. Their 2 trade deadline acquisitions, former Canuck Brent Sopel, and veteran Brian Smolinski will make the Canucks that much better going into the big show, so don't expect any repeats of past playoff performances from this Vancouver squad.

East:

Ottawa... Best all around team out of the east. Since they woke up from their horrible start, they've been the most dangerous offensive team in the league. Game in, game out they've proven their grit. And they have played next to best defensively in the Eastern Conference. Goaltending will make or break the Sens yet again this spring.

New Jersey... Self explanatory. All hope lies on the shoulders of Martin Brodeur, and the question remains... can he keep up this unholy pace of his into June? If so, watch for NJ in the finals. If not, then they better learn how to put the puck in the net, as a 5th-from-worst NHL offense casts serious doubt in my mind.

Buffalo... They've been at the top all year long, as their high flying offense and knack for sacrificial-style defense have come through in the clutch game in, game out. But some would go so far as to say their style is reckless, and with a recent string of serious injuries, there is merit to that school of thought. Buffalo MUST stay healthy to win... but would that mean a change in their style of play? There is a suprising amount of uncertainty surrounding the NHL's top team.

... Nicklas Lidstrom is doing IT again, and the top line is skating circles around the opposition, leads me to believe there won't be many teams who will even put up a fight against this Red Wing team.
