I'm heading up to banff for new years with my buddie for some riding and partAying, and hes fairly stoked about this St. James's Gate Old Irish Pub. Apparently it was built in Ireland, taken apart, and reassembled in banff or some shit like that.

Any how, i was wondering if anyone has been to it, and if it's any good. I've only seen one review of it... would like a few more.

-Cheers

I went to it a couple times shortly, older crowd... never went back again. Plus everytime I walked by it, it looked like an older crowd in there.

I never saw any good specials either... probably another reason I never gave it much of a look past 5 mins.

Since you're on the pub topic I'm coming out to Banff this winter from Ireland and I would like to see the Canadian version of an Irish pub. So far most of the International Irish pubs I've been to are just cheap knock offs of Temple Bar. I'd like to see something opened by someone who actually knows Dublin pubs. Any recommendations would be brilliant, thanks.

There aren't really any good Irish bars in Banff, then again I've never been to a real Irish pub.

The only ones that would be close to it are...

St. James

Pump and Tap (British)

Rose & Crown (British)

Tommys (British)

yeah, sorry man, i'm not too sure what a good irish pub would be.... ummm theres a few descent ones in Calgary, (i'm going to murder the spelling but, here goes) it's pernounced Shi-lay-lees, irish pub up in signal hill, i find that's a pretty descent one. theres the shineachie in west hills, that's also not to bad. i dunno, it's late, i'm tierd, sorry i can't be of any more help.
