Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows Gondola

Chairlifts/gondys/trams that move sideways across mtns vs. moving up the mtn are really fucking dumb and i see no point in them besides some flashy marketing techniques.

Ballsy agreement to come to since there's not gonna be any snow in Tahoe from here on out. The weather patterns have shifted, my friends. Moved outta there at just the right time.

can't tell if this is sarcastic or not.

It could be a good thing, but most of the time if I'm at alpine, I wanna stay at alpine.

Instead of Skiing down for 30 minutes then 20 minutes on chairs to get to blackcomb I can catch a 15 minute gondola.

Keep Alpine Free. Adding it to squaw will just ruin it's personality and flavor.

I completely agree with you. I have skied alpine and squaw since I can remember and in recent years alpine has lost its "soul". Squaw's ownership off alpine has been its downfall in my opinion and the mountain just doesn't feel like home anymore. It's sad to see the place that holds my greatest memories and a place I hold so close to my heart go through these changes. I really hope Alpine is able to keep some of its soul and not become uptight assholes like squaw.

Shenanigans. I think this announcement is more about driving traffic and getting attention after a poor winter. Season passes just went on sale and they need something to get people stoked to buy one. The only real news here is that KSL reached some kind of an agreement with Troy Caldwell but that's just the first step in a long and drawn out process. I'll be surprised if we see any actual progress in the near future.

Here's some interesting reading on the topic: http://deathofthepressbox.com/2015/04/13/why-the-squaw-alpine-gondola-wont-happen-and-why-thats-a-good-thing/

I feel like this project would be a huge waste of resources that could be better allocated to improving the existing operations at both Squaw and Alpine. We don't need no fuckin' gondola to nowhere.

Tahoe should probably make sure they'll be financially viable for the next 5-10 years before they build more shit.

I keep hearing rumors that KSL is trying to sell Squaw and Alpine. Also hear rumors that Vail is the front runners to buy the two.

I pray to God, Satan, Ghandi, Gwyneth Paltrow's anus, and of course the lord and savior Cuba Gooding Jr. that you are making this all up!

Still not digging how "involved" squaw is getting with alpine. Oh well :(

Yeah same here. Love the quirks of Alpine. Sierra at Tahoe is pretty much the last bastion of freedom around the lake, but they had a rough go.
