Spring Flooding?

i was thinking about how epic the wakeskating could be, but bailing in a foot of water over pavement could be wild.

Anyone down for a lazy river down state street?

Jealous i don't live up on the shelf, hopefully my house is still uphill enough...

does anyone have any more info on this? Is it pretty much inevitable at this point? Or can we be good if it melts really slow?

We talked about this a bunch in my Meteorology class the other day. Its pretty much inevitable. It won't be as bad as '83 since we have better infrastructure to support the runoff, but it will still be bad. Snow above 9000' hasn't begun to melt and there is another 15" or so forecasted for the weekend. May has the potential to throw us some 80-90 degree days, and when it does, so does the snow.

Yeah, not sustained though. The average is 70, but the record is 99. All it takes is a day or two at temps like that to really set things off. My prof. showed us some pretty cool data on the weather those years compared to this year, I'll see if I can get it from him.

This shows the snow water amounts for '82, '83 and '11 at Parleys Summit. I tried to get the one for Snowbird, but they don't have the later dates archived. With the snow this weekend, we should be coming close to topping the old numbers.

Snowbird has officially hit a 40-year all time record for single season snowfall!83-84 was 688 inches, and the bird is reporting 711 inches as of right now...
WHOOO

Quarry trail better not get fucked again, grrr that sucked last year. Anyone know if the upper level, the more downhill section past the ol concrete mill got wiped out? That was a fun ride.

if anyone here is familiar with bobsled and dry creek trails they are rediculous right now. boblsed has a stream running almost the whole way down, and dry creek..well its a straight up river. the rock garden section is a rapids section that you can ride down followed by a 30ish foot pool of 6inch deep water. so much fun.

walking through sugarhouse park yesterday was pretty fucked. its just beginning its gonna be madness by the time all the snow melts.

yea shit is nuts I think I'm gonna check out shoreline again today, but I would strongly encourage not shreddign bobsled until it dries up! I rode it once to scope it out and like you said it's wet as hell and there are a ton of big divots and ruts forming from people riding it. Unless you're one of the guys who works on the trail and will fix it later, then I guess it's all you.

Shoreline will definitely get fucked from riding it this time of year too, but I still do it because it's gonna happen anyway since that's the only trail available right now to the shitloads of mountain bikers who live here. Not to mention the people who maintain shoreline are morons who spend all their time removing rocks to make the trail more pussy so anything we can do to distract them from that I'm down for.

Back on topic... let's see some flooding!!

Went down to sugar house park yesterday and took some pictures. I've never seen that creek at a normal level but its coming over the bridge at one point. I'll upload some when I get my computer back.

Fuck. The Jordan River motocross track has some flooding. The big track is still ok, but the rest is bad. Hopefully the big track doesn't get fucked too. Damn water!

Millcreek is flooded, Ruth's diner is currently damaged and about to be washed away. Little and Big Cottonwood are flooded, stay in the driftboat for awhile it's dangerous out there.
