Spray painting rims

I have done it and I would advise you to get your rims powdercoated. Powdercoating lasts way longer, doesn't chip as easily, and looks a lot better. If you want to spraypaint your rims I'd suggest taking your time. Sand them first and do it well. Then add a few coats of primer followed by 4 or 5 coats of the paint you want. Then do around 3 coats of clearcoat. I followed that and my rims look decent from over a year of driving in every weather condition possible and all winter in Utah. They do have a bunch of rock chips that took off paint so they are beginning to look a little haggard but you can't tell unless you're a foot away. If I had to do it again I'd do powdercoating for sure. It might cost you a bit more but it is definitely worth it in the long run.

if you want your rims to resemble these masterpieces:

keyjibbs has the best answer. it's the cool thing to do in the auto shop at my school right now, but most of them look like shit and are only being put on beaters. follow keyjibbs advice. what colour are you thinking

go to home depot and buy plasti dip... its a spray paint that dries into a rubbery plastic that peels right off anything i just did it and came off in 10 mins

thats exactly what I did and they turned out really well. Just had to do a lot of prep work and took my time with applying a lot of coats of primer and paint.

it works pretty darn well, just make sure you get some quality paint. sand them well, clean them with soap and water super well, then do like 2 coats of primer, spray the wheel on the insides too, then do a lot of coats of paint, id say like 4-6, thinner coats, like the first coat you should see alot of the primer through the paint, let them dry for a couple hours by a fan, do another thin coat and keep going till you have done 4-6 coats. then with the clear coat, do 2-3, thin ones at first and a medium thickness coat at the end, let them sit for atleast a day before you drive with them on.
ive got a friend with painted wheels that have lasted 3 years, that includes all winter, driving through dirt etc.. and they still look great.

haha i spraypainted my entire car flat black one time. and stenciled a sweet golden skull on the hood. after getting pulled over constantly for a year i decided to repaint though haha

just powdercoat them
you can get 4 rims done by a cheap place for around 150-
if you are going to do your wheels with paint tho- go buy index cards and line them in the bead around your rims so you dont get any overspray

I was going to paint mine the other week, but changed my mind since I offroad a bunch with my truck and was worried about them chipping... but here's a summary I threw together on how to do it:

1) Clean the wheels with dawn dish soap. This will remove any wax or tar that is on the wheels. Remember, the cleaner the wheels the better your paint will turn out!

2) Sand the wheels. Start with 400-500 grit sand paper and work towards 800-1000 grit. Try your best to remove any imperfections in the wheels. The smoother you get them, the nicer it will turn out.

3) Clean the wheels with acetone. Make sure the wheels are completely free of dust or any other foreign objects.

4) Tape off the tires. Use masking tape to tape underneath the wheel lip, then tape newspaper around the tires.

5) Prime the wheels. Spray 2 quick coats of primer with adhesion promoter (primer). Wait 10 minutes between each coat.

6) Spray 3-4 light coats (or until covered) of paint. Wait 10 minutes in between each coat. Use quick motions letting off the paint after each swipe. Make sure you shake the can for at least a minute. This is very important. Also, the more paint that is left in the can, the easier it is to paint.

7) Spray light coats of wheel clear coat on them. Make sure you buy clear coat for wheels or it will turn yellow after awhile. Let each coat dry for 5-10 minutes before the next coat, and apply as many coats as you want (each coat makes a significant difference in shine). Use the same quick motions that you used with the paint.

8) Let wheels dry overnight, the next morning they will be extremely strong and durable. If you are painting the inside of the wheels. This would be the time to flip them over and spray. I do not think that clear coat or primer is needed on the inside of the wheels. The BBQ/Grill paint will be enough.

this will work pretty well. it can turn out nice, but you have to take your time. i'd still recommend powdercoating if you have the money, it looks much better.

actually, i'd recommend just buying new wheels.

WOW YOU'RE SUCH A FAGGOT OF COURSE HE WASN'T GOING TO DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!

he was going to paint them gold so they look like they're off an sti.

boredom + 500$ car = random shit. I ended up painting it white ( with interior latex paint and a roller ) with black ford GT-style stripes.

haha yeah no i wasn't hating, I just had to do some sort of xzibit thing since it involved a car. I'd love to get a beater and just paint it all fuckin weird...

plasti-dip for sure! that shits the best. i did my grill with it over a year ago and its held up great and if you dont like it you can just peel it off

really? they look ugly? I posted the first picture only because this site loves subarus way too much, there are plenty of better examples of matte finish on cars I could find if you want.

oh word, thatd be really legit. my buddy has an R32 with a few minor mods, but nothing major. My project for the summer is a VW MK1 Cabriolet

Their is a straight murdered M3 that i see about 5-6 times a month coming home from school. The dude is always down to play in traffic, the dude is straight dangerous.

thats nice.

not saying murdered out cars are nice. i think it sucks and uncreative.

but its not my car, so all i can do is assume the drive is a douche.

I did it. Looks way sick.

You have to do with right tho. Sand with 400, a lot. Make sure they are clean. Lots of engine primer, engine black (or whatever color), then lots of clearcoat. Theres instructions online. Here is my sexiness
