Sportcheks ski section

Went throuh sportchek in nanaimo b.c. today and they actually have some good skis this year! from what i saw there was the 2012 suspects, line masterminds, last years k2 extreme, j.o. pro models, they also got all the salomon park boots to. It also looked like that more skis were on there way in

LOLZ @ sportchek for skis, there stuff isnt very good, maybe there jackets but besides that even there helmets arent too good they come with different earpads than normal helmets

i find it very odd that nanaimo doesnt have a ski shop at comox has 2. nanaimo has over 90,000 people in it and many ski up at mount washington

What on earth are you talking about. Its not like Salomon makes helmets for "Ski shops" and then helmets for "Sportchek" I bought a giro helmet at my local shop, and was in sportchek at the mall for the hell of it. They had the same helmet in there, in it definatley didnt have different earpads.

Way Wrong... They sell K2 Obsethed, Rossi S7's Volkl Gotama, K2/Salomon/Line park skis.... All of which I would say are amazing skis. Plus they can offer large sale prices you won't always find at a ski shop.

my sportchek is super shitty, more focused on hockey than any other thing. i guess thats their main focus but when 75% of the store is hockey, you start to wonder

Fuck all of you that buy ski shit at sport chek. They have the most outdated shitty equipment. Fuck buy from a shop, when they know you are legit everything just gets mad easier.

he lives in nanaimo, the closest ski shop to him is in my town which is not nanaimo, look up the word local. (hint, if the shop is in a different city its not local)

If he drives the 120km here and back, assuming the average car gets 10L/100km he just burnt 24L at $1.20 a L, thats about 30$, and the 2.5 hours of his time then unless the skis were much cheaper at STH which they arent, its not worth it.

the dick's sporting goods around here has march 50% off skis. Rossi S3s can be had for $180, K2 Extremes & Rossi S1s were $110 last year. All 170+ sizes too, not tiny ones. The only local shop here is a ripoff, so I have no problem going to a chain for some solid deals.

/1000th post

My local shop was selling 1 year old unsold Dumonts last year for $1100. Why should I support that? I wasn't looking for new skis, but seriously, that's ridiculous.

if somebody buys them they are the biggest chumps in the world
and sport check selling skis can only be good for the industry let newschool skiing become big so companies like armada and line can pump out shitty ass sport check quality skis to sell to gaper masses and they can rake profit in to give us better deals on dope ass skis

You're retarded (for thinking ski companies make specific skis for sport chek). Sport chek sells the same skis everyone else does. The sport chek quality shit skis you're talking about would be masterminds and afterbangs (garbage in general). I dont usually stand up for sport chek but, I work there. I've worked in (real) shops before and am by no means clueless. Despite what you think, there are a few (I stress few) people at sport chek that have passion for the sport and know what they're doing. If you do your research, and know what you're looking for, its not a bad place to buy skis (this is assuming every employee at your location is useless and actually does just talk out of their ass).

That being said, I have heard of some mounting problems people have had. If they arent mounted right, take them back. Make sure they do it where you want it. Sport cheks number one concern right now is customer service - at whatever cost to the company (meaning warrantying almost EVERYTHING).

I will admit I've been fucked over by them before (because I was a gaper one time 7 years ago), yes, but they provide the same skis (not shitty ones) that everyone else carries at an affordable price. Kung fujas, Obsetheds, afterbangs (shudder), new K2 recoils, atomik bentchetlers and volkl bridges just to name a few.

Long story short, 80% of people in this thread are morons, that have just heard shit about shit, and dont know shit (lol).

lots of companies sell "sport check quality" gear, Shimano is famous for doing it in the biking industry,

its not that they put the local retard on the press for the sport check skis, they license out their brand name to small manufacturers who produce lower quality gear and sell it to large chain stores and a percent of the profit goes back to the original brand.

An obvious sign of such shenanigans is not finding that model name on the brands web page, as well as visibly bad construction, wobbly edges badly trimmed sidewalls.

flow bindings has a few, I am fairly sure burton has some renegade board producers at work and it would not be anything new for a ski company to do it either.

google OEM for info.

The sport chek closest to wear i live sells none of the skis mentioned and has absolutly terrible selection, however i will admit i was once in a sportchek in Barrie and there selection was pretty dece and 100x better then my local sport chek.

up until recently all the skis at sportchek were just twin tip graphics on plastic pieces of shit. they actually stepped it up these last couple years. but still, something is very wrong if i'm ever buying skis from sportcheck as opposed to ski cellar or wherever the hell people buy skis nowadays

I worked at sportchek a while back, such a poorly run company, if you guys only knew you wouldn't buy ANYTHING from there again! And the ski techs knew absolutely next to nothing about park skiing, they were all into racing...

last years news man. why would 4 different companies make shittier quality skis? it would actually cost more to make 2 different kinds of a ski. k2 was the only brand to make skis specificly for the foranzi owned shops.

Only skis I can think of that license out their name to make lower quality skis at sport check is Elan (which makes Tecno Pro skis (sportcheck brand)). You have other skis that are great for the price like the Salomon Ripper (which is last year's Threat that no longer exists but that is still made under the name of ripper exclusively for sportcheck.)
And of course a lot of people at sportscheck don't know shit (as in everyother shop) but a lot of them are also passionate about freeskiing like someone else mentionned earlier. Plus, depending in which sports check you go, you can have ski techs that are young and certified and that really know how to mount freeski bindings, you just got to ask their ski tech certificate before asking them to drill your skis and you won't have any problem.
