Sportchek Skis

Has anyone else heard that at stores like SportChek they sell skis that aren't really those skis? Like say I sent back a pair of teneighties because they were starting to delamminate. Soloman would put a new top sheet on and sell them back to Sportchek. I've even heard that ski companies send skis to sportchek with different top sheets than what they originally had!!! So if the dimensions of the ski were the same, they could send back a Soloman 720 ski back with a 1080 top sheet (this is an example, I know the tails are different).

Anyways, I think this is fucked up, and I've heard this from many different people, so if you can confirm or deny this, it might be good to know.

Im sure thats illegal. I dont know if sportcheck is Canadian but if its American then thats got to be illegal, like consumer deception or some sort of bait and switch, unless theres some sort of disclaimer...

maybe i can dispel this myth.

i bought my 1080's at sport check and they are 'real'. i had heard similar things about the skis so when i took them into a ski shop to get the bindings mounted i had the guy check em out and compare them to 'real' 1080's....same shit.

in canada it would highly illegal to do such a thing as has been said. it would constitute false advertising and would open them up to lawsuits. for example if somebody bought skis to suit them (i.e. weight or ability) and they were another ski in disguise and that person got hurt......goodnight sportcheck.

sportscheck and sports expert have some rossi or salomon skis with slightly different top deck and a hole lot cheaper construction.

its the rossi bandito instead of bandit

and they have a x-scream imitation

They could be just 'factory refurbished'. That happens a lot with electronics and stuff, they tell you its used but fixed and working properly, but it was warrentied so they sell it cheaper.

I bought my pow airs from there, they delammed after skiing on them 12 times. I made them send them back to rossi but they were pretty nice about it. I've never heard about what you guys are talking about but I suppose it could happen.

That makes absolutely no sense.... A few of my friends work at sport check and they have said they heard nothing about that... sport check is the best place in terms of customer service cause if you are not 100% happy with your shit they will take it back or get you something new...

i also heard about them not being the 'real' skis but i dont think that they are refurbrished or watever. i heard that say salomon makes skis specifically for like Sportchek. I dont know what the difference is, but i pretty sure there is a difference to fill the 100$ or so gap.

'One day I'm going to learn something i swear'

What are their prices, and where are they? I need some new skis, and I live in CO. Maybe they'd ship out here.

Yeah I bought my Volant Machetes and Marker bindings at a Sportmart. I took them into a ski shop to be mounted (Yeah like a trust someone who sells basketballs to mount my skis). I compared them to the skis shops Machetes with the techinician and turns out they were the same thing. I happened to save about 200 dollars too. They still work awesome also!

sportscheck is one of the best stores to buy salomans and rossi's.

they dont make black market versions of the skis.

I don't know what you guys are talking about!

they're good if anything because the prince are really low. my friend bought a pair of saloman 1080s (this years) and they're the exact same as any other 1080s. so i don't know what you guys are talking about.

Damn Danish's are good. ehh jon? hahahaha, Je n'oublierai pas quand mon ordinateur a baisé vers le haut un jour et a fait des million et des million de poteaux dans au moins de 5 minutes!

Yo kev dude.. I'm serious that happened to me... why would I joke about sportcheck??? They arn't funny... but they gave me a coo deal... they screwed up my bindings and gave me them for free.. yay!!!

Here's the deal..The skis at sportchek are definitly legit, so if you're buying a 1080, thats what you're getting. But, companies make certain models and top sheets for the forzani group, which is the company that owns sportchek, sportmart etc...Some dude mentioned rossi bandito and something else. Thats true, they are just lower end skis that rossi makes specifically for sporting goods stores. This is same with a bunch of companies, k2, ride, salomon, head, liquid, this list goes on. So you're going to find skis and top sheets at sportchek that you won;'t see in the independant ski shops, they're the same ski though. All of head's lower end shit was different for sportchek this year, colour wise..They also changed the model name on a few of them which can get confusing...

haha.. this has got to be one of the funniest threads ever. let's recap. people don't want to buy skis from a larger chain store because they don't have the same knowledge as smaller more hardcore shops. but, by not buying from such stores, the retailers think that these model skis don't sell. hmm, in the end i would say that by being cautious and completely paranoid, much harm is caused. but i guess after all, this is only my opinion. and by the way, sometimes before i go out and ski, i like to check my din. that's just me tho.

bap is right. The Forzani group is part a buying group that is the largest outdoor buyer in the world. They get skis produced specifically for their stores (Sport Chek/Sport Mart, etc) with different cosmetics, names, and constructions. Salomon, for example, gets their skis produced for Forzani in the old Fisher factory in Indiana, when we all know that authentic Salomons are made in France. These skis are commonly referred to as 'deck skis' within the industry. It happens all the time in golf, with clubs that are designed to look like Taylor Made, but aren't, and dont have the same features.

It is sneaky, but not illegal, that they have skis called, for example, the Atomic 9.16 (as opposed to the official 9.18) and the X-Scream 7.9 (as opposed to the official 9 or the series), when they look exactly like the official ski, but dont possess the same construction (different sidecuts), features (no prolinks, foam-power channels instead of carbon ones), core (foam instead of wood), etc. It is designed so that families who either a)dont know what they're talking about, or b) cant afford the real deal, get mislead into believing they're buying the same ski that is 300 bucks more down the street.

And while the Chek does have high-end, 'real' skis, that is not the type of cliental they deal with. If you are a good skier, you shoud know better than to go to one of those places when you buy gear.

hope that helped out

peace

the golf clubs you're talking about are called 'knock-offs', and that's completely different. taylor-made won't have cheaper model clubs made, other cheaper companies will make models that resemble taylor-made's clubs.

yeah, it would be quite illegal to do such a thing, sportschek would have to say that they have been returned or something along those lines...

I just personally don't like sportchek because they have bad service. (at least the one I went to) The clerk tried to sell me 1 boot size too big, I asked to buy the 25.5's and he actually said he wouldn't sell them to me because 'They were dangerous and unsafe because my foot was too large for them'. I just went to Skiis and Biikes and they fitted me exactly and said if I had gotten the 26.5's, I would probably hurt my foot or ankle from it.

I agree... sport check are paid on comission basically that means that they are in your face all the time... 'can I help you can I help you???' and they never seem to be there when you do need them... I just don't like sportcheck because they screwed my bindings

Brooke has found another man and I am once again all alone... *snif* *tear*

i bought my machetes at sportcheck and i haven't had any problems with them
