Sponsorship

This isnt about how to get sponsored.

I all ready did that I think. My question is does it count? I got sponsored by Steel optics on Hookit. com and the deal was I get 50% off at the online store as long as I wear thier goggles when I compete. I don't compete much so that's fine but does this count as being sponsored even though they arnt really giving me anything?

+K for good replies

Honestly? no.

If you want to get somewhere in skiing it's about doing USASA, competitions, getting ranked. Doing freestyle teams, going to summer camp, talking to pros.

Not about getting 50% off goggles. I mean, it's sick you get goggles at a discount, but that's all it is, is a discount.

Even though everyone hates on sponsorhouse/hookit its great if you trying to get deals on stuff and save money.

thanks for helping me out. i realized they didnt count because after I made this thread I got 4 more sponsorships.... im not that good so it kinda dawned on me

+k for most of you

this is wrong. that is a horrible attitude to have towards skiing and the more people who think like that only make it be that way. yeah you have to get recognized and competitions are a good way to do that but it is by no means the only or the best way.

no skiing is about having fun, i dont do any of that usasa bullshit or freestyle teams, i occasionally compete but i just got noticed shredding with friends and i get free skis, bindings, boots, outerwear, and goggles. So i just go and shred and have fun and still "I could get somewhere with skiing" But, to answer OP's question no that does not count.

I redirect this question back to you. Do you represent a company that is willing to work with you to create and develop a market for a brand?

Dude, I have been meeting with sales reps this past year to help build a name for myself and show my interest towards skiing and my plans of what my future in skiing really is. I state the facts: I do everything and willing to do anything for moral or financial support to progress skiing. I show edits, certifications, and written plans of how I can propagate skiing to the less fortunate. The answer I got was " can you do future spins?"

ok the last sentence wasnt true, but I came to appreciate the little help I can get. So if a brand choses you to represent them at contests and events, you must hold your head high and do the best damn job you can to sell the brand. Because reality is: I never got a callback, just reps getting stoked on my diverse style of skiing and my work behind the lens as well as in front.

But I wear the gear I have with pride and always speak positively about the gear, if it believe in them...even if they dont have a clue what I do...

Freestyle teams makes no sense and it is ruining the sport. Go out and learn on your own, how its supposed to happen.

hookit is just a way for companies to market their gear. The give kids discounts so the kids will buy their gear and by the kids going around and telling their friends about how the are sponsored by the said company. Great way to get some cheap stuff, but it is basically for marketing purposes for the company

i know what you're saying in your post, but you have to realize basically the entire point of sponsorship is to market a brand.

brands don't sponsor people because they want to reward them for being good at skiing. they want to use their sponsored riders as walking advertisements that other kids in the ski community will look up to and therefore want to buy similar gear.

Yes, your are definitly correct. I was trying to say that the companies aren't really giving you a real sponsorship. Its just a way for them to get their gear sold.

By being on hookit the companies hope that the kids will end up lots of stuff from them, so they end up with more profit

seriously fuck sponsorships, that should be the last thing your worrying about. just get out there and have fun, and like i always say when this thread shows up, the sponsorships will come with time.

Hahaha, this is the best response. All of these kids are claiming that am's are the best skiers nowadays. They might be dope but the athletes invited to X Games will be the top skiers regardless of how many sick Am's there are.

Just made an account with some pics, wrote in the bio "Skiing is my life but as a kid I lack the finances to fund this spendy passion. " lol hopefully i get SPONSORED!!!!
