Spitboards

so i was thinkin about gettin a splitboard. i mostly snowboard but all my buddys ski and i cant get into some of the spots they can with out hiking and holding them back. also id like to get good at skiing cause its bad ass. do they just blow both ways or are they nice? need some help and no hate

if you're looking to get something to actually use as skis, just get a pair of skis. splitboards are meant for hiking and are not designed to be ridden down hill.

What?

Yes, they are? What the heck would be the point, then? lol

Splitboards are expensive, and with the make your own kits, you have an exposed side of your board that will eventually be destroyed.

I'm set with snowshoes and retractable poles. Less costly and just as efficient. Now I can follow my bf/friends into the powderfilledmtnsyeah!

just get a snowmobile and when you get to the top throw it in manual and give it a good push to the bottom.

Bull shit. Snowshoes and poles Are far less efficient then a split with skins.

Use an old board and get a "make your own"kit op

i think that OP is asking if theyre good for actually skiing on, the answer is no. theyre not meant to be skied on down hill, im pretty sure theres no edge on the part that makes up the middle of the board. theyre meant for skinning up a mountain, like sidecountry. also shouldnt this be in ski-gab? just saying

Its a cheaper alternative for sure, and I honestly think its just as efficient. It takes me literally 30 seconds to put each one on, and take them off. They weigh 4 pounds, light as hell. I don't have to spend $800 on a premade splitboard, and I don't have to cut one of my current boards in half just to make my own (leaving the exposed edge of the board to snow, and you would want someone skilled in the area to assist you). I carry my board on my pack, and switch at the top. It takes just as long to take the skins off and put your board back together. Just do your research and buy a solid pair of shoes.

Yep, this was my other beef. Cutting my board in half just didn't seem to serve a positive purpose, you've got to be compromising ingenuity. You also only get one shot at splitting it.

I decided not to budget it the last time I live in good terrain. Lived back east last year and it was a shit winter.

Anyway I finally just grabbed one off craiglist this spring.

I got a voile split decision. It's kind of a piece of shit but it works decent enough and I got it for $300 on CL with pucks, binders, skins, etc.

I'm working in Africa this summer and probably Germany or Austria next year. Trying to go light on gear so I probably won't ride it much for a few years. Figured I can sell it for what I paid pretty.

Did you ever get into it OP?

For anyone I would say hit up craiglist. I almost bought another board in better shape at the start of the season for $300 as well. There are some deals. If you're not sure you'll be into it or are ski bum poor it's worth checking out.

I might by a never summer prospector on spring discounts now and bring it with me to Europe. Idk. I hate traveling with too much gear and don't know how much time I'd have.

Lolz.

At least on the plus, if you buy gear that cheap you can always get that much for it. Like the board I bought is about as beat up as it's going to get. I don't see why I couldn't sell it for what I got it for or at least close.

There are some dope boards 40% off right now. On the one hand I don't want to spend any more money. But on the other it's ski shit lol. I just bought more pants and jackets on the saga sale even though i still have shit left from last years.

UGH
