Spins with grabs

I am having trouble throwing grabs into my spins. I spin right and whenever I even get the grab I just touch the ski and then whip the rest of my rotation and its super sketchy. Is there any tips or grabs that I could do to possible make it easier to learn them?

focus on the spin first. once you set the spin and youre in the air then worry about grabbing. bring your knees up. dont reach down. reaching down could screw up your rotation

So much this. Reaching down seriously messes up your spin and its generally much harder to reach down for it rather than to lift up your knees and grab. Make sure you can do the grab perfectly straight airing, and if you're going for safety just pop the 360/180 regular but instead of keeping your legs down, pop and pull your knees in. That is what helped me figure out grabs with 3's. Focus on the spin, and make sure the grab is a natural part of the spin rather than something you have to interrupt the spin to do.

be patient, a bigger jump will give you more time if you have the option. like everyone says make sure you initiate the spin then bring skis up to the hands. you got it man! good luck!

well if you really have your spins on lock you shouldn't even need to think about throwing the rotation, that should just be natural. first learn to not throw pencil spins, so get used to bending your knees in the air and tucking up a bit. then learn to push your tips down and grap somewhere between the tail and binding of your favorable ski. once you really get used to grabbing your ski and being comfortable in the air, its all just practice practice till you get those other goofy grabs on lock. Good Luck!

Either go for some tail grab or something close underfoot like safety or mute. No need to anything big and complicated right away. If you can start to get stuff you can go ahead and try harder grabs with harder rotations.

ya i used to kind of spin most of the way and then kind of whip it back around, but after practicing more i finally got them somewhat dialed. thanks man

For me the biggest issue was to not look for the grab, but instead try to feel for it. Whenever I would look down at my ski I would stop my rotation and had no idea about where I was in the air.

First gravity learned with a 3 is Japan, and I find that safety grabs make me lose balance so dont just try safety grabs

any other suggestions? im having the same issue, good thread op k+

This goes to you and OP. Try doing like a stalefish with a 180 cause it looks really cool and it pretty easy to do and will get you into the habit of reaching while you spin.

I'm sorry if someone already said this, but I didn't bother to read all the coments. I'll just say what really helped me out when I started learning grabs in my spins. Don't just think about the spin, as they said above.

I got this lame ass tip from a father of a friend of mine when I was a kid. and he said "I think the grab will come easier if you focus more on your jumping."

IDK what the right wird for jumping is in english, but you know, "using the power of your thighs to get more air", LOL.

BUT, this really fuckin helped me. if you get into the kicker and jump hard, your legs will automaticly come up to your body.

this really helped all of my tricks, not just the grabs. suddenly my grabs got way more steezier and my rotations got way better. can't even do straight 7's anymore, cork 7's is way easier now.

I promise you, try it out, it fuckin works.

I got a high safety with a 3 and ended taking the jump gucci, to my shoulder. Breaking my colar bone into 3 pieces that were 3 cm apart from each other with concision. I Had to get surgery for my colar bone.
