Spine guards supporting fatties to flattie

Can spine guards prevent or at least support your back in big impacts (not direct impacts more sending it to flat)?. I'm Planning on getting more than a hundred days this upcoming season and trying to avoid injurie at all cost. My brother spent a season getting buck a few years ago and ended up destroying his back and I'm looking to prevent also destroying mine if that is possible.

That is the main reason I wear one. Sure having some protection there is nice if you happen to fall directly on it but it's the compression it offers I find really helps when you knuckle or just go big I general.

Injuries like compression fractures? I don't know how much protection a spine guard would be for that... Seems like they are more for direct impacts.

No not so much fractures, but more preventing your spine from getting unaligned (tight muscles, or jarring impacts)

I've been considering getting one as well. Suggestions on which one to get?

I have a slytech one, it's dope. Similar material to the poc vpd, WAY better than a hard shell one

How much do they actually support your back/spine? Like do they absorb some of the impact on the back from heavy landings?

Don't listen to these kids telling you that it creates extra spine support, it doesn't. All they do is help protect your spine if you crash. With that said, extra protection never hurt anyone.

No, simply no. In order to actually get spine support you would need some sort of exoskeleton. For an example go watch the always sunny episode where the gang goes to the highschool reunion.

compression fractures? sounds like a shattering deal

I really can't see a spine protector doing anything to protect you agains compression fractures from hitting the knuckle. They're designed to mainly protect against direct spine impact and scorpioning

^its not compression fractures we are talking about its more about using it a bit like a kidney belt. When you take a huge impact everything wants to move around so if you have something surporting you it can really help. Give it. A try before you comment.

Personally I have a POC Bug spine protector that I used to use a lot in skicross racing and still use every now again. So I have given one a try before commenting...that's why I did comment

OP was asking about a spine protector supporting your back and landing flat (as in the thread title) can often result in compression fractures...there was no mention of using it as a kidney belt.

I got a nasty break this summer, tib fib+rod and four screws. What can I buy to protect it? Like some poc shit?

Better in that it's more comfortable or offers more protection or both?

Way more comfortable.

I would wear mine without the straps and just put an under armor shirt over it (pretty much like the poc vest wears) and I barely even noticed it. The hard shell is bulky and kind of annoying.

I think protection is pretty comparable

But it's the fact that it acts like a kidney belt which makes it ideal for what the op is asking. flat landings need something to help you from just exploding and that is exactly what a back protector with a good waist belt can offer.

What kind of protection are you looking for? The most important thing for you will be excellent fittin boots. The cuff of the boot will act a bit like a cast an help support your leg but you will need good footbeds to ensure you are neutral and your leg flea matches the boot. Make sure you don't buy too big or too much volume over the instep as those to things can cause very bad shin pain.

Intuition helps?

Not really. getting the footbed and shell correct are the most important. The liner may help cushioning a little but it's getting the other parts right which will make the biggest difference.

Alright, thanks for the info!
