Spain

No, this isn't about Euro 2012 (although, Viva la Roja!)

I'm studying in Spain right now, I'm on my third week and have three more weeks of class. After that, I have two weeks (July 3rd-16th) to travel. I need suggestions on places to go from people who've been to Spain before. If you're here right now, even better.

I'm trying to do it as cheaply as possible. I'm going to be looking around on couch surfing, and looking for cheap hostals and food. I have some money saved up though, so if something is worth it, I'm down.

I've thought about going to Pamplona for the running of the bulls, but I'm pretty opposed to the Spanish treatment of bulls with bull fights etc. so I don't really think that's my scene. I'd like to spend 5-7 days in Barcelona, any suggestions on cheap hostals?

Thanks!

I know a really cool girl in basque country who might be able to get you a waiting gig at her restauaunt she owns. Even if youre just looking for a cool person to meet I'm sure she'd show you a good time (inb4 slut remarks which she is not).

Hola, que tal?

Actually? That would be awesome. I only have two weeks and my Spanish is far from perfect so I feel like I probably wouldn't be the best waiter, but it would be awesome to have a connection. Let me know man.

When i went a few months back i loved Segovia (1 hour north of Madrid) and Barcelona. those would be my choices. More of Barcelona because there is so much more to do.

you definitely wanna go see La Sagrada de Familia (the big ass cathedral with the HUGE spires, yes you can climb up them, yes it is sick)

other than that just enjoy the city and go to the beach. theres some park in Barcelona where there are street actors (people that dress up as various things and pretend to be statues for money), portrait painting, and TONS of other cool stuff.

go to the south by the coast. i spent some time in gaucin and the surrounding towns, which was pretty fun and laid back. if you want a bit more active area, go to either nerja or tarifa, and make a day trip over to tanger morocco.

also sevilla is really cool too

My dad lived in Spain for awhile. He isn't super down with they way the bulls are treated either, but he said "the running of the bulls is awesome because you get to see them really fuck up some Spaniards." So it sounds like it's actually pretty tight.

wouldn't exactly call that a day trip. also Tangier about the worst city in Morocco to visit.

but great idea. make it a few days and go south of Tangier into the Riff mountains. Chefchaouen or something. or even down to Fes. you're only regret will be that you didn't have nearly enough time.

When i was in Barcelona many people spoke Spanish. I visited a school there and they spoke Spanish Catalan and English. its pretty common that they speak Spanish.

Go skate Barcelona. Best skate city in the world.

check out a little town called Ronda

and also go to the Alhambra.

I was down in the Costa del Sol one summer (Fuengirola to be precise), it was pretty nice man. Apparently it rains less than 50 days per year or something ridiculous like that, so it was pretty awesome.

i did it in a day. and tangier may not be the best city but its still cool

also Ronda is a really really cool city. go there for sure if you're in the area

Yeah I really want to spend some time on the southern coast. I spent a day in Sevilla last weekend and got to see some of the cool stuff, it seemed like a sweet city but I probably won't go back.

Thanks for all the other suggestions. I probably won't go down to Morocco, it sounds awesome but I don't have a ton of time.

I would definitely check out Tarifa on the south coast. I had a fucking blast there. It's constantly windy , so kiteboarding and windsurfing is really popular there. Soo much fun.

Muchos gracias to all.

As for the flights, I've found a lot of cheep ones from major cities through Ryan Air. The shitty thing is, to book them you need a Spanish or European credit card, I can't use mine and it's super annoying. I'm currently trying to find a way around that
