Southern Cali NSers?

Seeing as I'm going off to college next year i thought the best place I could come for advice is NS.... well not really but I had a few questions about the ski vibes in SoCal. Im most likely going to go to USC, so Bear Mountain would be the first option for closeish ski mountains. Im down with skiing all sorts of terrain, glades, bc, steep and deep, anything fun basically. But my first priority would be to go somewhere with a good park, will I find that at Bear Mountain or do I have to make the drive up to Mammoth? Anyone care to give some feedback?

Also, any NSers at USC?

Bear has War of Rails. From what I've seen in edits, it's a good park.

Also, Bear is 2 hrs from LA, and Mammoth is 5.

I'm in LA and split time between Mountain High and Mammoth. With the exception of the 13/14 season, I don't think Bear's park is thaaaat much better than High, and the commute is way shorter. Mammoth is the closest place you'll find any halfway decent terrain. It sure isn't Snowbird or Jackson, but there's some fun shit for sure. And IMO the main jump line is the best in North America.

Join the USC freeski team. Those dudes are awesome. Also, don't call it Cali.

Assuming you get in, just join the USC Ski Team and go to Mammoth.

You can carpool up there, and your membership includes housing dues. Bear is fun for the Sunday you don't want to commit the whole weekend to Mammoth, but it's still 2.5 hrs away. At that point you might as well have just said screw it and driven the extra 2.5 for an EXPONENTIALLY better ski experience at Mammoth.

I graduated from USC three years ago. Join the ski team and head up to Mammoth on weekends! Great times.

I just moved back to California for work and will skiing Bear and Mt. High this year. The drive is a lot shorter. Those mountains are great if you need something close-by and are okay skiing park all day.
