Soooo many movies

Take a step back in time with me. It’s fall of 2008 and there are a total of 10 ski films coming out soon and ns is abuzz. You’ve got the big dogs (msp, pbp, tgr), the cool kids (level 1, stept, rage, tsp), the ice coasters (meatheads), and the euros (field, plehouse)

Now back to fall of 2023. Only 2 of these companies still exist and make movies. But fear not because it seemed as if a new movie dropped almost every week of this summer and fall. Sometimes just one rider, sometimes more. Some were close to 40 minutes long, most were about 8 minutes.

I guess all I’m saying is I miss good skiers coming together on epic projects that blow minds for an hour straight.

also am curious how many “pro” ski movies came out this year total. I might try and get into it because I think it will be a comical number. Anyways..

God I miss those days I have all the level 1 ski the east meathead films and poor Boyz productions and a stept film. Please bring them back

Classic old head take. IMO 10-30 minutes is the sweet spot for ski movies. A full hour is too long and usually in that hour they’re filling it out with a bunch of b roll

I like the new style of premiers that level 1 has been doing too- showcasing several shorter movies back to back rather than just one. More variety is better

I agree. I wouldn't say a specific length, but every video shouldn't be longer than it needs to be. I'm not saying that no movie should ever be a full hour or more, but I think it's nearly impossible to make a video that length that doesn't have a bunch of footage that could've been cut

Yeah like 30 mins of zootspace fly by but I have seen some 20 min projects that feel like an eternity

I think brands need to take a more leading role in creating content, bringing sponsored riders together for projects

i have some old ski the east stickers that still say meatheads.net in the corner, got them from buying their dvds. and obviously i have some meathead logos as well.

My only counterpoint is I feel like videos are often more enjoyable when they feature groups of people who are friends or already ride together, as opposed to just bringing together various pros who get paid to be part of the project or that happen to have the same sponsors. The vibe is just different, plus I feel like it feels more organic to me, and I appreciate that aspect when watching

I think that if a brand is properly managing its team it should feel like a group of friends, the on3p and Vishnu videos have that vibe

video, edit sounds goofy ah

How many projects were you working on this year? I honestly lost count, you’re a beast. I ask because you seem like you could have made a legendary movie if everyone you worked with combined their clips into one big movie
