Sony NEX-VG30

Alright M&A, hopefully you'll be nice to someone who knows very little about camcorders but I pre-wrote a suicide note already so I'm prepared for any hate :')

If my preferences/what I want to shoot are the following:

- 95% video

- 5% photo (mom wants a Christmas card, etc.)

- versatile lens selection

- 1080p/60fps

- fast autofocus

- good sound (without an external mic)

- mainly used run and gun, not setting up anything too elaborate

- filming skiing and traveling

It seems like from my limited research, a VG30 fits the bill. Agree, disagree, suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

What's your budget? the vg30 is meh in my opinion

Local shop has the VG30 with lens on sale for $1750 so let's call that my budget.

I have a t2i with Canon 50/1.8, and Tamron 17-50/2.8 (what everyone had ~4years ago on NS) and used to film with that. Now that I want to get back into filming, I realize I do not like that setup because I always spent so much time dialing in everything and never felt like I could just pick up my camera and start filming (this could definitely be because I just suck at filming).

I haven't used any other camera since and haven't filmed in about 2 years so obviously the technology has improved a lot, I just don't know firsthand how much. Which is probably why I am originally drawn to a video first type of camera.

I'd say go gh3/gh4 or sony a7s, you could use canon lenses on either, but it could get expensive. But i'd say don't get the vg30, if you want a bigger camera like that get a used fs100.

Cool, thanks. That's what I was expecting to hear!
