Sony Handycam

So yesterday my dad was looking through some old stuff and he found this video camera. He bought it 3 years ago and had only used it once so he gave it to me. I have no idea what it's worth or if it is a good camera or not. Here are some pictures.

Anything that anybody knows about this camera will receive ++++++K

Try to find a model number and mess around with the menus. Can't figure much out with just pictures.

Is it digital? I have one lying around that isn't and it's a few years old that might be the same model. Any of the specs you see on the camera would help but generally Handycams are pretty nice, I love shooting with my new one.

yea its digital. its pretty simple and it looks like it should work good for when im filming while skiing at the same time

copied the from the sony site:

Handycams: The model number is located on the side or bottom of the unit. (e.g., HDR-R550V)

if you can find the model number, we can tell you everything about it, and there may even be people who have used it

Looks decent, 30 GB internal drive, but you're going to have a tough time editing. It records in MPEG2 which is a lossly format and is rough to edit.

it uses a hard drive, so don't jump on a trampoline while filming (sudden movements make it skip an can damage it), and it isn't super wide angle (44mm equivalent), but it could be a good camera to learn on. I'm pretty sure it shoots SD, which is easier to edit and fine for youtube. I don't have any experience with mpeg-2, and while premiere can handle nearly anything you throw at it, you amy want to see if something like clip wrap or mpegstreamclip will work with it
