sony dcr-trv318 hook up to computer for digital editing

anyone know if a hi-8 sony video camera with an s-video out put will let me hook it up to my computer throught the s-vid port with the s-vid wire and do digital editing with an editing program?

if we were meant to fly, they would have given us more lsd
 
Only if you have an analog capture card in your computer with an S-video-in port. Most analog capture cards only have A/V component plugs though.

My old camera was analog and my new one is digital so what I do (to transfer old tapes for editing) is hook the old camera up to the AV-in ports in the digital camera, transfer that to DV tape and then upload that to the computer through the digital camera's Firewire cable.

 
get a tv card to capture from analog source. not the best method tho.
