Sony action cam mounting

Are sony action cams actually good? I haven't seen much footage from them, but always wonder why people choose them over gopro's

For me, equal picture quality if not better. They are easy to use. Cheaper and included a lot more accessories included.

I'm just not sure how to mount it on my Helmet. On the top facing down or the side mount. I gotta buy a side mount still
 
TGR Mind's Eye uses the side mount pretty heavily? Does leave the goggles in the frame. Not really useful for park stuff imo.

Pole mount is probably the easiest/cheapest for follow cam stuff. The mono pod is pricy, but the base should thread on to standard tripod mounts, so it shouldn't be too hard to throw your own together.
 
Side mount makes the most realistic footage just because then cam is at eye level instead of 6" higher and angled down
 
I used a curved mount on the side of my helmet, best option imo. I tried mounting it to my goggle strap but it wasn't stable at all. Wish I knew how the TGR guys get the goggle mount to work so well
