Somewhat gross problem.

That'd make it worse. And my mom doesnt want me getting it surgically removed. I guess ill just try to make her take me to the doc.

Cut a small v in to your nail it will naturally try to grow back together pulling the ingrown toe nail out. It will take a day or two but it works for me.

Soak your foot in epson salt warm water mix to soften the skin around the toenail before cutting also helps clean the toe to prevent infection

I had a really really bad ingrown toenail, and I ended up having it removed. It's a fairly painful procedure, but once you let it heal for a couple weeks you're good.

I would definitely take a few weeks off and get the surgery. It sucks, but it's worth it.

I had a super bad one over the summer. I was going to go in for surgery cause I was sick of having it hurt, but a 3/4" sheet of 4'x8' MDF was dropped on it, vertically, while I was wearing sandals (because shoes hurt and I was trying to let my toe air out before you start about wearing sandals while doing carpentry). Nearly broke my toe, but it certainly took care of the nail, I killed it and the nail bed from the resulting damage, nail is still not fully back after 8 months.

TLRD: Just drop something heavy on your toe and lose the nail completely.

just go to the doctor and they'll cut it out. Its not a big deal. Ive had like 7 removed in the past year and a half. After the season, im going in and they're gonna kill the root so i dont get any more.

Sorry for the double post, but i think i saw that someone said that you need to take a couple weeks off from skiing. You only have to take like a day off, just keep it covered so that no sock fuzz gets in it.

When I got it done, I had two shots in either side of my toe to numb it, and then the doctor took a tiny pair of scissors and slid it from the top of my toe all the way under my nail to the base of my toe in order to cut the nail completely straight to prevent it from happening again. It took a while to heal over like new and I tried to squeeze my foot into a ski boot a few days later and it hurt like a motherfucker. Maybe a few weeks was exaggerating, but I definitely needed a good amount of time off.

Have the doc take care of it for sure. I had terrible nail problems from playing lacrosse, and after I had the doc fix it I've been golden.

i get these all the time, legit, do this and it'll cure the next day:
1) soak your feet in hot/warmer water with a little salt2) soak em for about 10-15 minutes3) your feet will be pruny as hell which is a good thing4) the toe with the ingrown nail will be much softer and less irritable, start to just pull the skin away from the nail and the puss will slowly ooze out5) keep doing this until the inflammation subsides6) get a sharp mini-scissor-like nail clipper and cut the side of the nail
your nail should grow back fine afterwards

Which will, inturn, lead to future ingrowns. Seriously OP, do yourself a favor and get it fixed by a doc. They will cut it out and stunt the growth of the nail so it grows straight. I tried to fix my own for years while in HS, and it just wasn't worth it compared to what a doc can do.

Just tried to clear it out myself.
So I gave my feet a bath and got em soaked in hot water. took em out, no pusstuck a toothpick in the corner to pry em outcut em off straight.eh...eh?

nope, if you're prone to ingrowns they'll keep coming back because of the shape of your toe and the growth pattern of the nail.
i get one just about every 3 months and this solves it rather than making an apt with the doc.

This.

I had problems with ingrown toenails, once i went to the doc to get them removed surgically the toenail never grew back where it wasn't supposed to. The initial numbing hurts like bitch, but after that its fine. I was back skiing the next day.

Retarded post is retarded.

Thank you for proving my point though. You WILL continue to get ingrowns if you keep trying to fix it yourself. Had surgery on mine 8 years ago, and haven't had the slightest problem since.

theres a quick fix and the doc way.
ppl can set a preference.
u dont have to be a dick about ppl doing it differently, otherwise u sound communist

honestly, i've had a few before. and you just dig em out yourself. I'm pretty sure for most people its all how you trim your toe nails..

if you leave sharp edges and points on the sides, wearing ski boots or cleats or something, you will probably get an ingrown nail.

you just soak it, then man up a bit, and start to cut it out with a clippers. from then on, just make sure you cut them right. and you should be fine.

Understandable. If its a one time thing, sure, have fun digging that bitch out yourself. If its a chronic problem, like you admitted to having, you're a moron for not getting it fixed professionally. You guys seem younger, probably still under your parents insurance, why wouldn't you get it fixed?
