Sick gig! Just wondering, do you get a significantly hire wage for working with these cars than a regular mechanic? And did you need any specialty degrees or anything to work with em? Also I wish I could post some pictures of these beauties on my factory floor, strictly no phones allowed though.

Very neat, how reliable are those super and hyper cars?

it is different car to car. Some cars are pretty rock solid like Ferrari 458.. others not so much... like Murcs.

I make good money. I made way more money working at volkswagen though based on sheer amount of hours sold ( flat rate hours). No degrees, just skills and previous work exp. I also work on a racing team with porsche gt3 cup cars

So you just got more hours in at the volkswagen place then? That's interesting, thanks for the info. If you don't mind me asking another question, if you did go to school to be a mechanic where did you go? And would you recommend the institute? That's wicked your on the race team to, pit crew or something else?

Where are they racing those in Alberta? I assume you work in Calgary as there are too many damn potholes in Edmonton and more oil money to justify exotic shops down here. Zr auto?

Shhhhh. You're coming off as stupid.

i don't understand how you get off saying this. what kind of personal experience do you have with the reliability and maintenance of quarter mil - multi-million dollar supercars?

i'd be interested in hearing about the reliability of some of these. i'd think that most of them sit more than they drive, so I wouldn't expect them to break too often, but what happens to one that gets driven on a pretty regular basis?

the guy who owns it is an amazing dude. he owns an 02 lotus esprit, that purple diablo, and a murc.... he is one of my best customers, love that guy.

Most mechanics are paid flat rate hours, so i would sell normally around 300 hours a month at volkswagen but only work 180 hours. Now I get paid straight time in order to take proper care with these cars. If you make a single mistake, it could ruin the entire year of profit ( cylinder heads on most ferraris are about 40k alone, and that is not including anything besides the cylinder head and the valve train).

I went through 4 years of training through an apprenticeship program that is required by law in canada... other than that, just hands on exp and factory training from the companies you work at.

I am part of the race crew, so it is shakedown / setting tire strategy and fuel calculations/ alignment. Most series that gt3 cup cars race in are spec series, so when a major part needs replacement you just remove said part and buy a new unit from Porsche Motorsports North America otherwise you could have trouble passing scrutineer tests.

I lived in Edmonton my entire life up until i took the job at this place here in Calgary. It is not ZR AUTO, its a branded dealership.

Might be a stupid question, but has a Ferrari GTO ever been in your shop?

I used to be really really into supercars, not so much anymore but they still really fascinate me

I'll buy it for you if you go on a date with me.

Buy me a 65 Shelby GT 350 and I'll consider it.

OP, what's the most extensive work you've done to a car?

I have been in the trade professionally about 8 years now. I have done every type of repair possible to cars.

my job on tuesday will be installing the interior into this car after a fresh coat of paint. Got dropped off yesterday late in the afternoon.

Not a huge fan of cars. I'm more into trucks/ jeeps and that kind of thing, but a job like this would be pretty awesome!
