Two skiers have been rescued after they were swept up in an avalanche

outside the boundary of the Panorama ski resort near Invermere, B.C. on

Sunday afternoon.

The

pair were caught in the slide at around 1:30 p.m. PT and have since

been taken to hospital. Police believe one of the two may have suffered

spinal injuries.

Witnesses had reported seeing more people in the area of the

avalanche, Columbia Valley RCMP said. A search to find any survivors was

launched, and police said later they were confident no one else was

caught in the avalanche.

Search crews had found no evidence of any other victims in the snow

and planned to continue scouring the area until 6 p.m. PT, Cpl. Grant

Simpson said.
