Sol mountain lodge

Got to help out with the opening of the lodge this winter. 9 days of some seriously sweet touring. It was sunny and hot so we grabbed the camera for an afternoon. Can;t wait to get back there.

its a nice lodge. The novelty of flushing toilets and hot water showers in a backcountry lodge is always going to feel a bit odd to me.

I wasn't super stoked on the terrain, but it wasn't as good of an early season when I was up there so some stuff wasn't filled in, and besides sheltered North faces, conditions weren't the best. Too short of fall lines, too mellow in a lot of zones, and too much flats between zones. I've always thought that if it wasn't for the park (and being a long way from the highway) that area would make for some amazing sled skiing.

Doesn;t seem to stop anyone some sledding up there honestly. I found some really fun pillowy terrain and we skied some chutes with exposure. Aaron showed up around though. not the biggest vert thats for true!

love that place. been up there three times now, twice in the summer for work, and once in early april for skiing. Spent most of the time skiing with the lodge manager guy (cant remember his name) and shredded so many cool cliff, pillow, and chute zones. Went everywhere to every zone and had super deep blower, to stable sunny days. I will agree with the long flats, and not much vert but skied some of the coolest stuff ever. some really cool little pockets of neat terrain. would be a super rad place to have a sled for sure.

Aaron is a super nice guy and a hot shower and a sauna after ski touring, cant be beat.

Fuck yeah dude that looked tight! I get to go up there in a few weeks, hopefully the snow is still good!
