Sochi Hate... For the wrong reasons?

Don't get me wrong, I agree with a lot that has been said in opposition to Sochi, but it seems like our entire community has glossed over Russia's blatant human rights violations. It sucks that our sport finally get's into the Olympics and the most homophobic country on the planet hosts, but does that make it ok for us as a community to disregard the hatred towards LGBT people, especially when it isn't just straight people who ski? Just something to think about.

(Plus is gives everyone an extra reason to hate on Sochi that's actually pretty solid)

Also claiming that it is the most homophobic country in the world is a bit of an exaggeration.

^ yeah, it definitely isn't the most homophobic country in the world, a lot of countries in the middle east are a lot worse

Don't worry, I know I definitely exaggerated, but a lot of people just are completely unaware as to how they treat their LGBT citizens. Gotta grab people's attention somehow.

If you're gay in Russia, you might be subject to homophobia and possibly some minor state punishment. If you're gay in some African countries and middle eastern countries. YOU GET SENTENCED TO DEATH

But think how awesome it is going to be if some of our gay athletes bring home golds. It would be on a near level as our black athletes winning in the Nazi's 1936 olympics.
