So...what's new in the skiing world? First time back since 2011.

Hey old friends. Haven't been skiing in a couple years (being an adult, paying bills, etc.) -- finally got decent raises in both of my jobs, so I will be shredding soon.

This has gotten me interested in the culture again.

What's new? Are triples like kangaroo flips at this point? Who's big in the game? Any new Wallisch's? Sickest edit that BLEW MINDS? I did see the Candide POV's but that's about it.

Basically, my request is that you get me the most stoked you can.

On a more somber note --

RIP to those who passed in the meantime...it's been sad to see both so many icons and friends pass away..

Happy to be back and clicking into skis again. In the meantime, throw some backflips for me. Cheers.

I was in a similar boat at the start of this season. Basically, indie ski crews are blowing up. Everyone and their sister is putting out dope edits these days.

Also check out Phil's Keynote Skier edit and Harlaut's Road to Zion edit. Both are fire.

Shit got REALLY crazy on the tech front. Expect to not be able to come close to counting rotations or figuring out what is happening on rails.

Street is unreal. Watch The 86 by Stept, Good company "One", and I'd recommend Inflik, Tabarnak Pack and Hood Crew.

Comps are nuts, though we still argue endlessly about style vs. progression.

We like Dumont now. Slvsh is pretty much the sickest thing in the game. Afterbanging is a dying art form, and Steve stepp is still an amateur

JP passed away (R.I.P.) shredsauce is now an app, Wallisch is with line, and hoodcrew fucked your bitch

(but seriously, they killed it in THIRSTY)

I kept up with Stept, really enjoyed their last couple movies. In fact, in honor of this thread, I might put on How We Livin just for nostalgia's sake right now..hehe.

After that, I'm about to surf the shit out of the top rated NS videos and the indie crew edits just to see how radically things have changed.

And lol -- I somehow doubt Tanner stopped smoking weed -- although I did see him type in non-caps once over the last couple years, which was an event in itself.

Yes, and then some. Gus Kenworthy, Nick Geopper, Joss Christiansen are big comp names, The Bunch and Real SkiFi are the creative types. Wallisch is still the Wallisch...no one has really taken his spot. Candide's POV and Sander Hadley's POV are mind blowing. 4bi9 and Stept are still crushing the street scene.

All in all, not too much has changed in the past 4 years...tricks got crazy and hard to figure out, some new faces are emerging, but the old ones are still there.

Welcome back!

I think he did for like a minute, but based off his scent at SIA, it didn't last long.

street segments must feature wallrides and large bomb drops now for them to be good

nick goepper is the new dumont

if you can't triple you wont win a slopestyle comp

need at least 4 doubles in the pipe to win

The only thing less original than Steve Stepp am jokes are sarcastic condescending replies to Steve Stepp am jokes which are even more unoriginal than the original joke. Capiche?

This shit trips me out. I remember when olenick threw one of the first dubs in a pipe...WHISKEY FLIPS are nonexistent these days I would imagine, hahaha.

And I think it was the last season I skied that the first triples were thrown in ski movies. Ugh. I feel my knees a little bit more now, this progression scares me in the best way.

Get yourself some tight fitting tan pants, grow your hair out until its unmanageable and greasy, make yourself really grunge, do tricks that don't have names yet and make your edits to weird sound clips of professors or rock from the 90's and you'll fit right in...kidding, kind of. Skiing is in a really cool time of its life right now. The sport is more known but grass roots type factions are everywhere. Tons of small ski companies, tons of small outerwear brands, loads of amazing content left and right and crews are coming up faster than ever. Everyone is still having just as much fun. Movies have plot lines now (The recruitment, ten and two) People film with 4k hollywood movie machines and old school vx's. (check geopper's weird edit...looks fake
and trashparties movie...filmed with a carrot, unbelievably sick thoughhttps://vimeo.com/110896997) The gap between comp skiers and everyone else is ever growing, and the argument of whats sicker will never stop. Parks are better than ever. Skills are better than ever. Fun times are more fun than ever. Skiing hasn't peaked yet. Go have some fun

skiing went from being "5 years behind snowboarding" to being "8 years behind snowboarding".

some juggalos started an outerwear company called "vertika".

candide is still a boss.

tall t's are still "on fleek".

that's about it.

Seems like there are 3 types of pro skiers right now...(Some of them being combos of a couple types.)

1)The spinner (self explanitory).

2)The baggy (Not a crazy amount of spinning, lot's of nose and tail slides, some butters).

3)The tappy (skinny clothes, do lots of tap/shifty combinations on rails, do zero spins/shuffle landings on jumps).

nipwitz put out the craziest urban film ever

Like they used to.

Harlaut is now superstar status. Even though he's been killin it since that Mind the Gap seg.

New fresh styles coming out

Torin Wallace is probably someone you've heard of, but if not, check him out.

Aidan sheahan (bad spelling) is a fucking grace from heaven in some peoples' eyes

My new personal favorite, and always loved ec skier, Keegan Kilbride. Dude has style for days. MANDATORY WATCH: brecka one. I had multiple orgasms watching that.

A man who's style is as chill as his personality, Tyler Duncan. Check out his carinthia season edit from last year (2014). Its bedazzling

Dadali brothers are fire right now

Watch slvsh (yes with a "v") and you will understand so much. ALSO MANDATORY

Vinnie gagnier is just like his brother

Specific crew that I think is killing it is HG skis and their media. Everyone is always hyped on the stuff they put out FOR FREE

Salomon skis are no longer shit

Phil casabon changed how you can use a pair of skis in keynote skier (IMO)

Fischer is gaining popularity in free skiing again

Elan and dynastar are out of the game but still make killer products

Watch anything by oliver hoblitzelle (Filmer) dude produce top tier content and he's just getting started. His edits are 100% my style and whenever a new one comes out I watch on repeat for about a week (new one of his Lil bro coming out soon *inside info*)

Another very comparable Filmer is Gavin Rudy. Also produces insane content. Get hyped on it. Both of these filmers are exposing new talent to the community

On3p is a gift from our savior according to the people in gear talk

I wasn't freeskiing in 2011, so not sure how relevant collin Collins, parker white, Chris logan, and Adam Delorme are. I'm sure they were around back then, but just in case, they are still on the slay

Delorme edits coming in HOT walk in the park pt 1 and pt 2 I haven't met someone who doesn't love these edits

A few personal favorites I can pick off the top of my head:

-Whistler black park//gun play

-4bi9 goes to bear

-Paper trails

-brecka one

-chris laker//stay safe

-dale talkington Nike chosen edits (you will NEVER see something like those)

-Lupe hagaerty free the streets

-Beast coast chapter 1/2/3

And I'm drawing a blank with alot ATM but I think this will suffice.

Christian franchino is on fire

Tokin and smoking and spinning like no ones business is Sam zahner. You won't believe what you see, or know what you see, or count what you are looking at... Yea

Krazy Karl. Dude has a name that couldn't fit him better. Cheezin and steezin in his windells edits

4s on are the next big thing for rails along with one footers and taps

Girls can double, but they aren't progressing as fast as guys have been, still some radical media with ladies like Katrina (sexual Wednesdays)

Cody potter is a rail pimp and you will see why if you watch one of his edits from this year

Overall, a lot of stuff has happened. Style is becoming more individualized with a focus on just doing what comes naturally instead of OG STEEZE holy fuck check out will Berman and john ware to see some of the best pro style in the game with some of the best armterbang (new thing replacing after bang) in the game.

I forgot where I was going with this... Skiing is at the raddest its ever been IMO, and while people may disagree, I can guarantee you will find some type of skiing that appeals to you in the emerging era of freesking.

Have fun getting on multiple hype trains for a solid 2 years after this thread gets bombed

that covers park skiers for sure, backcountry pros need a different classification

Delorme is still insane and how has NOONE mentioned the new faction edits?

word, I could watch the faction collective edits for days, especially the third one. check em out

Pollard almost lost his leg in Russia and is just now fully recovered. Nimbus is getting old and not putting out tons of media anymore

Chug is a legit, fulltime commercial airline pilot.

Jon finally came back to freestyle after blowing his knee racing

You spin number is the year, "future" spins are now the hot thing 2160

Watch the Virtika aka First Drop "Friday" videos

Tanner likes to tour, but is the unfiltered skiboss of old

Parker White is the new face of Level One and BC jibbing

Sammy ghost-rode his sled into some boarders at Snowboarder Mag Superpark

Angel Collinson shreds almost as hard as the TGR top men.

Most of the old shithead members have matured and dont troll as much.

Skierman go perma-banned

Poor Boyz says they put out a movie this year, but you can't buy it and no one has seen it.

Yeah for sure, should of said that. Backcountry styles are a lot harder to classify though
