So what car should i get?

didnt audi get kicked out of wrc or something back in the day because their awd system was so far superior to everyone else's? also, not to take away from subaru, because i have a 98 legacy gt and love it for everything except highway driving, but my friend has an 85 audi 1000 or something that will blow my car away in sketchy road conditions. he's driven through 15 inches of unplowed snow with that thing without any problems, where my car definately would have gotten stuck. i dont think audi's awd system is all that far behind subaru's or any other company's.

ok yeah the awd system on the STI is better than most audi's but thats the sti, im just talking about every other subaru, when you compare say a wrx to an s4 the AWD on an S4 is much like the standard WRX, open front diff, rear lsd, same split, feels/drives the same. and i hear audi is coming out with similar stuff with their new sports cars and it is supposed to be really good.

from experience though it seems audi has always been better. for example my friend had an allroad, and one time in the mountains it snowed like 2+ ft in a couple hours and pretty much everyone on the pass was stuck, but he had no problem, he was pretty much weaving in and out of big suv's and subarus, everything like it was nothing, now he has an 06 outback xt, which is very similar to the allroad,(similar ground clearence, performance, power, weight, all that stuff) and he even says its not even close to being as good as the allroad. and my s4 outdoes his easily in the snow too, i know audi and subaru awd systems are pretty similar, but mabye audi's are made better/ nicer materials, i dont know, but audi's always seem to outperform everyone else.

plus audi has won sooo many more rally's than subaru, when audi did rally there was pretty much no competition. but that was like 8 years ago and i understand they have changed some.

oh yeah and there is this video of an s4 driving up a snowy/icy mountain road only on rims, and he actually makes it up kinda fast, though i guess nobody has ever tried that with a subaru so you cant really compare.

and i really do like subaru's too they are awsome cars, i just dont think they can match the quality and performance of audi's. but the sti is pretty much one of the coolest cars ever and id take it over 90% of audi's, id still take my s4 over one though.

the s4 is more inbetween the wrx and sti, and the a4 is a little below a normal wrx id say. but its over awd systems, if we want to compare the best systems from each company, then do audi's new system(which i dont know much about) vs subaru's sti system.

yeah audi isnt even in it, or you could ask yourself who has won the most rally championships ever. but i agree with you the driver makes the difference.

i think japanada was comparing them price wise. where a wrx is considerably cheaper than an A4 and an sti is much cheaper than an S4(when comparing the same years). hell if you compare msrp's for brand new ones the sti is only slightly more than a 2.0t a4 quattro and less than a 3.2 quattro

no i was comparing them on a performance level. but im terms of price a 2004 sti goes for anywhere fromabout 25-30 grand whiel as a 2004s4 can go from about 27500-35000, audis are a little more, but that is to be expected. adn a 02 wrx goes for 12500 to about 18500 depending on miles and condtion while a 02 a4 goes for about 15-20grand, they arent so far off as many ppl think.
