So the world is screwed

Not 100% sure what to make of this but pretty much all the fish on the west coast of America is radioactive and its fucking up the food chain. It is caused from 300 to possibly over 400 tones of contaminated water http://sccc.org.au/pages/The-Food-Lab.htmlthat contains radioactive iodone, cesium, and strontium-89 and 90, that is flooding into the Pacific Ocean from the Fukushima Daichisite in Japan fallout roughly at 20-30 times as high as as the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings in 1945.

So does that mean we're going to be able to catch super gnarly like neon fish with 5 extra fins and 3 eyeballs?

Hell fucking yea

Oh no, the world is ending again? Just like the end of the mayan calendar and the rapture and the beginning of the 21st century? Holy fuck this is getting old

and fish like 10x the size of what they should be?

Op what are you talking about we will have even more to eat then before.

I'm glad the author took the time to post some links, rather than think critically or do some serious research on the subject. My favorite part is where they put 450 TONS of water in all caps....so about 20 hot tubs full of water into the pacific ocean. This is definitely an issue I am interested in, but holy shit that article blew old flaccid men.

So yeah, that iodone is really messing stuff up right?

Or they don't know how to spell iodine, which seems to be the case, since iodine is actually an element.

The fallout happened in Japan, which, after some research, turns out not to be right on the west coast of America. In fact it would seem that there's a large ocean called "Pacific" that lies between the two.

Just some math for you guys to clear stuff up some. Not going either way (OMG THATS FUCKED or meh nothing to worry about)

Remember the saying "A pint's a pound the world around?". Yes, 1 gallon (8 pints) weights about 8lbs (8.32lbs at STP...)

One Ton, or 2000lbs, is about 240.38 gallons of water. 400 Tons, therefore, is about 96,153.85 gallons of water.

One Olympic Sized swimming pool holds about 660,000 gallons of water. So every 6.86 days (once a week lets say), an olympic sized swimming pool's worth of contaminated water is dumped into the Pacific Ocean.

The Pacific Ocean spreads 165,250,000 sq. km. An olympic sized swimming pool: 1250 square Meters. (or .00125 sq. km)

So it takes about 132.2 BILLION square swimming pools to COVER (not fill) the area of the Pacific Ocean.

"seals and polar bears were found to have “external maladies” that consisted of fur loss and open sores, obvious signs of radiation burns from the Fukushima meltdown"

I just stopped reading there.

This so much. Writers try to get over on people with units so bad. LIKE OMG TONS, that's a lot of water. Until you dump it in the ocean, and it's like nothing even happened. Not that I condone dumping radioactive shit into the ocean but...

What's worse is when they talk about units of radiation. There's like a million units for radiation related things I've come across, And I'd bet a lot of people have no idea how to judge them. Not that I want any amount of ionizing radiation either.

I roast marshmallows over a lighter fluid fire on the reg, i use an electric blanket in the winter and i stand in front of the microwave when im waiting for my food so I probably already have cancer. A couple radioactive fish won't have a terrible effect on me.

A very similar article with the same NOAA picture has been circulating around the internet for months. Japan finally made a "new" move so abc, etc are now reporting but not with the alleged NOAA photo. Also LOL at that youtube video of the "calculated" spread. what a joke.

Its really just some websites trying to increase traffic and get ad money, one day I saw the article posted about 10 times on FB, I can only imagine how many page views those random news sites received.

the article is saying the fish will take over the world and enslave mankind with there new superpowers right? because thats what i got from it

Everyone shut up, we will be fine!

a pool of water absorbs radiation very well. in pools is where we store radioactive chemicals and radioactive material. In fact, you are being exposed to less radiation in the pool of radioactive material (not close to the material but a few feet under the surface) then you are standing next to it.

So now lets think about the ocean.

Quote from national Geographic: "Radiation levels in its groundwater observation hole on the east side of the turbine buildings had reached 310 becquerels per liter for cesium-134 and 650 becquerels per liter for cesium-137. Drinking water at 300 becquerels per liter would be approximately equivalent to one year’s exposure to natural background radiation, or 10 to 15 chest X-rays, according to the World Health Organization."

Sounds alright to me
