I have no problem with this. It's actually fucking rad, despite the lack of originality on Poor Boy's part...skiers need more venues to turn their work into $$$. And opportunity. And Bishop and Schmuck are judges. Go Newschoolers.

BUT

21+ only!?!?!? Weak. I think it's pretty common knowledge in this industry that skiers 15-20 comprise a majority of the talent in the industry, especially in 'undiscovered' talent. I guess they're selling the footage to snus or coors or something...whatever.

I dont know about you op but at my home mountain the average age of the steezy shredders is 25 or so. I'm one of the youngest park rats at the age of 17.

Also lol cuz youre in america and cant drink till 21

At my hill the rowdiest slashers are the 400-1,000 year old men, so I don't think the 21+ age rule will have much of an effect on gnarliness.

LoL all the former top guns at my home mountain are married with kids and ski like 3 times a year. I remember watching them growing up and thinking about how rad they were. Now the steezey crowd is between the ages of 16-20. And 20 is pushing it. All the older guys at my home mountain got caught up with college, girls, and 'the real world'. So they are always dumbfounded when they occasionally come shredding and see people doing insane tricks, and they're 15.

I think it'll be awesome. 21+ should actually make it pretty interesting. There's shit tonnes of talent out there that is great at that age... plus there's a certain refinement of style that comes with a little bit of age.

Stoked to be a part of this.

TGR has a grom contest

Level 1 has superunknown

Poorboyz wants older riders...

companies can be different, it's okay... there's multiple contests for AMs

random speculating on reasons why:

- they don't want to deal with teenagers, I don't blame them.

- they drink while making movies & don't want the liability of having underage people drinking on camera

- want someone who can rip the whole mtn (and those guys are usually older)

there are 16 year olds who are insane. dan brisse is 31, (jibber) jeremy jones is 39. between the ages of 15-35ish age is irrelevant in skiing, except for the handful of dudes who have ever had a career for longer than 10 years

id guess that this one has the age limit because of the sponsorship which i think someone said was a beer company or something

it's probably 21+ because of legal reasons. Along with skiing in Chile you'll probably be going out to bars, etc...

I agree. Also it gives the 21+ year olds to have a chance instead of a bunch of super good "unknown" kids under 21. Will be a sick pool

The first grouping of comments made me laugh my ass off...

But I persist, there's no reason to exclude riders 18+ at the least. Time might refine a rider's approach and aesthetic, but that doesn't mean some 18 year old kid won't blow the competition out of the water i.e. Torin, Aidan, etc...

The drinking age in Chile is 18. Also if whether or not a rider can drink even plays into the equation...It's a skiing competition, who gives a shit?

As for comments eluding to the idea that 'It will give the guys over 21 a chance'...That's my point. Just from Poor Boys perspective, it seems like they are hurting themselves by excluding a huge group of good skiers.

Sorry for acting like I hate old people on the internet newschoolers...But for real the potential is in the youth people...look everywhere.

This is the best thing I have read on NS in easily 5 years

Sick! also, want to see Hartman entering this, as well as a lot of older rippers, I know plenty of undiscovered guys over 21.
