So my mom wants me to build a zip line

The best part about this is that everyone seems to think that this kid has the ability to pull a several hundred foot line tight enough to zipline on

Make it so you sit on a chair with no harness, the chair is attached to the thing that slides down the zipline then you just jump off!

it's easier than you think dude, if his difference in elevation is big enough, and he finds a good static rope or cable he can even have a little bit of slack in it....+ with a tirfor cable tensioner or something similar, you can easily get a couple ton of tension on it...

i dunno how old he is, but if his mom and dad want to help him out with it (to the sound of the op, they do...) it's not all that hard...

you could make the part in the lake at the level of the water, so if they do hold on the whole time they'll just crash into water anyways

Aight, so you use a regular hands-free harness, like this one.

Then, you give the rider this:

At the right moment, they slash the rope, and have a fun fall into the lake!

At my friends house they have one with a seat that is similar to those baby swing seats at parks. You just climb in and then climb out at the end

so you want the line to magically end in the middle of the air ?

you better call someone like this:

cause ziplines don't tend to magically float in mid-air ....

idk man like make a fucking pole or some shit near where you finish and attach it hahaha figure some shit out. just nigger rig something

Was thinking about this more. Something similar to this was alread posted but here is what i think the safest way to do it would be.

Get a figure 8

either will do the one with the arms will allow for more friction though

really easy to use just loop the rope through like that and hook one end of the rope to your harness and the other lock it off behind you just as if you were repelling.

Then whenever you get to the point where you want to drop all you have to do is let go of the rope.

Came to me through your munter hitch idea :)

Oh and

DISCLAIMER: MY IDEA IS NOT SAFE AND THEIR IS A RISK OF INJURY OR EVEN DEATH. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU OR YOUR FRIENDS GET HURT.

yeah, you mentioned, but still, i as a rockclimber have quite some experience with rapelling/belaying on munterhitch/eight/atc, etc, and i would feel very uncomfortable having to hang onto a zipline like that ...so how would an unexperienced person feel ?

better trust your two goddamn hands and hang onto it without any secondary belay i'd say :)

id feel comfortable if the rope was long enough and i made sure i had it locked before jumping.

with the top one there is a way to lock it so you can go hands free and then whenever you would want to drop just give the loose end a good yank and it would release you.

Your best be is still probably just hanging on with two hands or a seat no backup rig. Because with this way you would have to put all your wait on your harness and then go.

IMHO a zipline into a pond would get boring in a day. Id say build a rope swing. Way more fun and you wouldnt have to worry about a sketchy rig.
