Biking. From the waist down. That shit is wayyy to fucking real, be careful out there. Skiing or biking, those injuries are out there in these sports. Its not something anyone should ever have to deal with. Just be careful, wear a helmet, make smart choices.

Wow man, i'm really sorry to hear that.

a girl i used to hang out with a fair bit got paralized in an atv accident. its amazing how a life can be changed so drastically in a split second.

holy fuck man, thats awful. One of my friends brother was almost paralyzed, and the family went through so much. Vibes to you and especially to him. Were you with him at the time of the crash?

I hate to ask this but i think everyone wants to know...
How did it happen?
And y
Thas rough man +vibes

no i wasnt with him at the time, i got the news the other day, but found out today it was a severed spine

my next door neighbors best friend was mountain biking, fell and hit his head (with a helmet on), went into a coma, and never came out of it. they finally pulled the plug the other day and he died. He was like 50 something, wife, kids, family man.

really sucks, gotta be careful out there

Damn you paralyzed just one arm? Was it recoverable at all? I'm kind of interested if you don't mind.
To OP, sorry to hear that. Life is nuts and everything can change so quick. Remember to never take things for granted.

Damn that sucks man. Im so sorry that his family and friends are going to have to deal with that. That's shit. I wish that upon no one to ever have something like that.

I cannot fucking imagine how his family is right now. A few years back I was getting an X-ray and they found something that looked like leukemia. Shit was fucking scary as all fuck. My family was fucking freaking out and it was like the world was coming apart. I remember seeing my mom just sitting there crying, with nothing she could do. Luckily after about A week they determined nothing was wrong. I couldn't even imagine that for real. Mad vibes++++

it wasnt because of a spine injury, i have a real bad blood condition so i got compartment syndrome when i broke my arm and the pressure killed all the nerves and stuff, so its pretty much permanent

leatt brace? if you ride alot, or even race on the am level, you should consider them. there's no price not worth paying to protect your neck. Despite the inherent risks, I can't wait to be back on my freeride rig next spring after a 2 year hiatus. as shitty as my experience with my knee has been, it has made me much more grateful when I can walk and much more aware of people in varying degrees of disabilty

i would definitely go all out if i were a competitive downhill biker, definitely easy to get hurt and there is no reason to not protect yourself when you easily can.

its weird though, in lacrosse, where i get whacked with metal sticks, i hardly wear pads. I were tiny shoulder pads that really just cover my collar bones, and my chest, shoulders completely open. and my elbow pads just cover the elbow. my gloves are thin, nothing fancy, and a helmet. thats it. the less the better

that sucks dude :( positive thoughts to your friend!!
i live in whistler and i see ppl come down off the mtn every day...tons of them have injuries because they don't wear the right gear, a lot of them don't even wear shin pads. it's a stupid way to fuck up your body especially if it means you can't ride/ski/bike anymore. i broke my femur skiing and i wasn't wearing a helmet at the time..i have since then..it's just scary to think how fast things like that can happen.

ah man SCI are becoming a more present problem in MTB. sucks real hard but get that fucker on a four wheel MTB and keep on shredding. stacey kohut and trevair should encourage him enough! you can still rip and be thankful for that.

I've been thinking about getting a neck brace for motocross. They cost a lot though, so it isn't easy to just drop the cash on one. I'll be putting money aside for one though.

i got into a bad quad accident about 10 months ago, i was riding along the railroad tracks (around the tracks they have the loose gravel stuff), at this one point the gravel looked as if it washed out and it got mad steep, i was going about 60 on a utility quad when my right wheels on the downside of the washout started slipping, i at least was able to straighten the quad out to keep it from fliping but causing me to go straight down hill into the hevilt wooded area, about 50 yards ahead my quad hit a broken down tree(and i also got close lined by the trunk of another tree right before i hit the tree which i didnt relize till i went back to the site) i was imeditly knocked out and woke back up when i hit the ground, called 911 asap before i passed out again, i had to climb up the washedout area for the paramedics to see me and then i passed out right next to the train tracks, finally after 50 min paramedics were able to get to me and it took aother half hour to get me out of there, spent the night in the hospital and finally after way to many doses of morphine i was released and sat in bed for 2 weeks straight, my injurys: major concussion, bruised collorbone, 13 stichs in my forehead, 2 stichs in my nose, 7 chipped teeth, scraps and cuts all down my side from landing on the ground and climbing up the washout and on the 4th day from the accident i woke up not being able to see because my eyes were swollen shut and were fro the next 2 days, also had the worst fucking case of whiplash i ever had, cat scans and xrays were negative but the doctor said if i were not wearing a helment i would have gone into acoma and possiably paralezyed due to the massive force from the impact, the visor on my helment was shattered from right where my head hit the tree and then i hit right in the opening of the helment(which is why i got the huge gash on my forehead and nose), the day after the accident my dad and uncle went to get my quad, they came back telling me i was the luckiest bastard alive and i shouldnt be living, i went back to see why two week later and there was a chunk of tree missing right where my helmet hit and the tree was posistioned about 2 feet back from where my head would be from where the quad hit (meaning i got ripped of the quad by my head) and if it were any lower my whole front of my face would have been gone,

i wear a helment for almost everything now, and if that story doesnt make you wear a helment well then ill try and find that video on NS that showed why kids should wear helments

damn. why do the sports i love have to be so dangerous? vibes to you and your friend, good luck to him. i know that there are tons of foundations out there to help with spinal cord injuries, and helping the injured get the equipment they need; you might want to do some research on that. anyway, vibes, man, vibes.

+vibes man, always wear a helmet and I wear a back protector when I compete now

One of my friends was telling me about a kid only a few years ago at Crested Butte was spinning a 5 on one of the park jumps and under rotated to about 450 and slammed really hard. He later died from head trauma, crazy to think about, I heard he was really good and when you barely screw up how much you pay for it in some sports

hey, so i got some awesome news today. After his surgery they found out he only crushed 2 vertebrae and he will be able to walk again. Thanks for all the vibes, hopefully he'll be skiing and riding again in the near future!

that's awesome news man! I'm stoked on that news accutaly. heres to a quick and speedy recovery, and he's back on that bike soon, Should get a bunch of people to invest in a leatt as a get well present!

Watch out guys skiing isn't the only dangerous sport i heard about this guy who got hit in the head with a golf ball right in the temple and too got paralyzed

I read this comment before I read the one above it, so I was pretty confused for a second haha! That's awesome to hear OP must be such a relief.
