So Laura's Blog was taken off the front page

I dont know if it was due to my complaining about the fact that blogs are posted on the front page or if someone realized that it was terribly written or what. i dont think that taking her blog alone off the front page really solves anything. What has still not been answered is: Why are blogs on the front page? and should blogs be posted on the front page?

and here is my comment, it is my opinion i am entitled to an opinion. so dont hate on me for it if you dont agree please try to make valid counter points. dont just call me a stupid 14 yr old n00b.

there is a reason that newspapers dont put columns on the front page of their paper (i am not saying that there is a direct coralation between a column and a blog but in this case they both express opinions). thats actually a good comparison, that is if ns does want to be a legitimate source of freeskiing news. freeskier or powder dont put blogs or columns on their front pages. what makes these admins so special that they get their own blogs on the front page. all this not to mention that most of the bloggers that get their blogs published on the front page cant write for crap."

I respect your opinion, however must disagree and say that blogs should most certainly be on the front page, and I'll tell you why.

NS is more than just a source for news, it's the tool used by a comunity to interact. We do want to supply news & such, however this site is built off the contributions of it's members.

The front page has an area for news & industry press releases, an area for resorts & teams to have their say, and a member area for photos & blogs.

The goal of our main page isn't to be like a professional fact-based newspaper, but is supposed be more of like a portal to our community & it's members.

I believe it should showcase everything NS has to offer, wether the content be official or from members.

I never even glance at the front page...I just sign in and then go about my ns'ing via the top of the page link bars, 'the site', interact, etc.

but it feels sorta like myspace or facebook with the personal notes and stuff like that on the frontpage. maybe a hotlink or something? i liked the old layout where you could see more than 4 storries on the front page and it was all there
 
You actually think it was taken off because you complained? Seriously? Get over yourself. I'm pretty sure that nothing that's done on this site has anything whatsoever to do with you.

Honestly, I don't think that blogs should be on the front page either, especially from members that don't have much more to say than whatever's in their head. Like, admin blogs/dave's blog = the shit, but I dont really think member blogs should be there...

My blog was actually on the front page before I wanted that interview posted (by wishes of matty), but I refused to update it because I dont think that most of ns gives a shit what I have to say, and I entirely respect that.

That being said, I assumed the reason it was taken off was because of ns realizing that member blogs maybe shouldn't be there, considering they're letting people have an outlet to express their opinions, and well, apparently that doesn't entirely fly.

Uh, I don't know, the only thing I'm really bummed on, is no one even sent me a pm or anything telling me I'm the dick that I am... I was expecting at least a "uh, we think its wack that you wrote bad shit about us" in the place you're supposedly supposed to write about your thoughts... personally i'd like to see the other non-industry related blogs taken down, it's kind of double standard to take mine down, but keep up ones about random urban sessions or whatever...

Seriously though, some actual communication as to why this happened would've been sick... rather than people speaking through threads... like, I can definitly take criticism (albeit I reacted harshly to it initially)... It's kinda shady to be telling the whole of ns why my blog was taken down, and why my article was as fucked as it is (I now know in retrospect) before telling me, the person responsible...

If you're going to give people the outlet to speak their minds, that shit shouldn't be censored. It's entirely contradictory. Especially without any reasoning given to those it affects.

I put it up there and took it down.

I put it up there because I was trying to give some people a chance to speak their minds. I wanted to give blogs a nudge for people to start writing more, and expressing themselves. I took it down because it wasn't getting updated, and there were plenty of members updating theirs. I see absolutely no problem with having member blogs up there. I like seeing what else is out there, and encouraging members to get their writing up to par.

I can't for the life of me understand why you just insist on keeping bashing the way we do things. Do you really want me to pick your writing apart? Do you really want harsh criticism?

Your blog would have been left up if you'd kept writing. You didn't. It got taken down.

The man is not trying to hold you down. Trust me.

 
how come it bothers you so much? just dont look at them, dont scroll down. its not some kind of life altering event if theres blogs on the front page it it?
 
This site confuses the shit out of me.

I just... don't understand why I only become aware of certain policies after having crossed whatever line... from my perspective, you can't deny that I have reason to be confused...

It's not necessarily resistence to authority.. it's trying to figure out what actually happens here... and i'm just trying to figure out things that don't make sense to me?
 
The problem is you're looking for policies... there aren't any.

With the blog issue, we just put some on the frontpage when we feel like it, and take them off when we want to. Its no more complex or simple than that.

If you could, please list all your questions and I will answer them exactly.

Why wasn't I aware that it would be taken down if I didn't update it?

Or more to the point, why didn't you drop me a message and tell me it would be taken down, so I could have had the chance?
 
Thats really a good point also. A few people have been pushing for admin/mods to send PMs when stuff gets moved/taken down/deleted, it just doesnt always happen. It should though.
 
Blog was *really* taken off the frontpage because I had to make room for other good blogs. As well, other people were claiming on it less, and not being so high and mighty about their blogs. Figured I'd give someone a little more humble with fun intentions a chance.

You weren't aware because thats just the way I do it. Blogs that are good go up there, and replace ones that aren't as good. There's no rules to it, and I promise nothing.

I didn't drop you a message because I haven't dropped anyone else a message. As well, I'm really annoyed at you for all the hate you keep trying to spread. Honestly, why can't you take a more mature approach to this?

You guys have no idea how many stupid threads have to come down every HOUR on this site. It would be a complete mess without our wonderful moderators!

Its all like racial stuff and gay porn and crazy shit like that. Just believe me, we delete what is necessary.

 
Yeah, basically you can't ask for a PM whenever a moderation action needs to be done. You know I love you dearly Laura, but there really is a lot of shit to delete, move, disable, enable, etc etc etc, far too much to notify all the interested parties whenever we do anything. It's absolutely not feasible. And if you pm us (at least, me), we'll probably try to explain why it happened to you, but don't expect to win an argument about it. And for God's sake (PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT) DON'T make more work for mods by reposting your thread after it's been deleted, it'll just get deleted again, and you risk being banned just for being an annoying nuisance. Patience is a virtue we can ill afford, because we've all got other shit to do.

Doug she isn't spreading hate as far as I can tell, she's just irked. Since when are people not allowed to be irked at this website? They've been doing it for years. Just delete whatever / leave whatever you feel like.
 
what if you made something that automatically notified people of stuff like that? i dont know about computer programing so forgive me if its impractical or impossible, but it seems like itd be a pretty good thing to get going
 
Paul has enough work on his hands as it is when it comes to upgrading NS, and he doesn't get paid jack to do it, so let's try to give him as light a load as possible.
