So im looking for a video camera...

So im looking for a video camera... I will be soon in the market for a higher end Dv type camcorder. I have a smaller Sony Dv camcorder right now but the quality picture just isnt there; I film some skiing, but mostly am going to start my own video series of the life of an Alaskan fishing guide. I have looked around a lot, and have a pretty good idea of why to/not to buy. Ill also be buying a Mac to run the editing software. But what im just trying to get at is if anyone can recommend from their personal experience a decent camera that’s under or around 2 G's. Im sure this thread has been made many times before, but im hoping the media forum is good to me... thanks in advance

you cant beat advice from some one who has actually used a certain product.

i myself, an Hv20 user, love my hv20. Its sub 1000, and the quality is amazing. with the left over cash, you can buy lenses, mics, and other stuff you might want. I love it. I personally cant compare it to a dvx, gl2 or vx2100, but those are deffintily going to come up

Yeah, if you have around 2Gs to spend, look into at least a GL2 or VX2100...and you could almost definitely do better, too

to be honest, I bet you could get a better image out of the HV20 than a Gl2 or vx2000 if you use it properly...

add a 35mm adapter to a hv20, rode mic, and/or a WA, and you've got a production quality camera. haivng 24P is good for movies, but not skiing.

if you use the 24p properly it can be done. i think yeah dude was filmed in all 24p. 24p is also really good in low light

What are you talking about? 24p has nothing to do with low light. The vx2100 is the best low light camera made. Period. The Dvx cannot even compare to the vx in low light.

i always thought 24p is better than 60i in low light, because each feild has more time to recieve light. but i dont know much about photography.

and the vx2100 may be (and probally is) the best camera in low light for prosumer cameras, but there are definitly better dv cams out there that are better in low light (professional). but for its price the vx21 is probally the best low light cam.
