So i pulled a Candide last weekend

At a small local hill I decided to send midway. Had to time the chairs perfectly. Didnt go near as big as I thought I would. But I got a small mute and didnt crash, so im happy. I was wearing a chest mounted gopro. But on the inrun, it started to fall and point downwards, so it didnt really get the lift in frame. Super bummed. And once i land, it falls more and points downward.

Some of my friends were in the lodge and according to them, the ski patrol radio blew up. They said the first announcement was that "Some asshole just launched off of midway." Then all the patrol started hunting for me according to my description. I ended up taking that chair again after it happened because its the only chair on the mountain. I got yelled at 3 times. Bottom, midway and top.(you can see the midway guy yelling at me in the second half of the video. but you cant hear him). The patrol at top of the lift took my name and was going to pull my ticket if it wasnt the last lift of the day. They wernt too stoked on it. But, it was worth it. #noragrets

i can not believe you got back on the lift after a stunt like that. and i cannot believe you didn't get your pass yanked once they found you. i guess some times dumb luck is your best bet! good on you!! i really want to try this now

I give you props bro! I did a similar thing on a chair that wasn't running, but you have some big cajones my friend.

Also if you go back on Candide's video you can see he also did it on a lift that's not spinning. Freeze the frame when he takes off and you will see there isn't any snow on the top ramp. The people on the chair were computer animated I believe.

But that was sick you knucklehead.

the lift are all empty so that's good... but this kinda stuff is pretty dangerous, and not the fun kind of dangerous that we all love. Maybe I am a bit too grown up to fully respect this... but... you could have hurt someone. I am pretty sure that the lifty in Candide's video knew what was coming but he hammed it up for effect. The sport isn't about breaking rules, it's about pushing boundaries.

All that being said, you picked a damn good lift to do this on, and no gapers got murked in the process... so it's all good. Also... get that camera mounted on your head and use a screwdriver to make sure it won't slap down when it counts.

(I still gave you same karma, because it's pretty sick)

dope, now take what you learned and go hit it again, faster and with the camera better set up!

and bring another jacket to switch into afterward this time. it's the oldest trick in the book and it's nearly impossible to find someone who has switched jackets on a ski hill, provided you arent wearing a distinctive hat or goggles or something

all safety bullshit aside, i would most certainly be stoked beyond belief if you sent it off of one of my topshacks. 10/10 video, dude.

For the record, you did not pull a Candide. Not even close!

We don't need a bunch of teenagers trying to be cool and sending lift ramps with 10' of air. It's not even impressive. That stunt didn't take balls. It was lame. That shit is dumb as rocks and carries way more risk than it's worth. Candide not only set up his stunt, he fucking sent it (twice, as told by his tracks).

Now if you wait until the lifts are closed and hit a lift ramp huge and trick it, then my perspective on this will change big time. Pep did this a while back at Sunday River if my memory serves me right. Took that shit to switch.

Clearly someone is jealous.

HA! No Jelly.

I'm busy shredding this kind of shit to care about sending a small lift ramp.

I'll give props where they are deserved. If I were on the lift when this kid went off the ramp, I would have cheered. But he did not "pull a Candide".

BOOM.

^kids, get learned.

peace

thats on a closed lift. its not running and the chair seats are up. plus he just sent it off the side, not the back. not taking anything away from pep, its sick and hes one of my idols.

who cares if I called it "pulling a candide"? how else was i supposed to label it? when you read that, i bet you had a pretty damn good idea what it was about.

And yea, it might have been more risk than reward, but isnt skiing in general? What really is the reward of clicking in, skiing the deep, the park or just some groomers? There really isnt except to get an adrenaline rush and to take advantage of our strong, young, active bodies. And honestly, i had a damn good adrenaline rush after that drop, no matter how small it was.

the midstation at sunday river is massive, if someone hit it while the lift was running it would be nuts. its a fast lift so the window would be small but they usually don't have anyone in the shack.

ahh yes, I had seen a shot of him sliding that wooden rail but never put two and two together that was Sunday River when I was a youngster watching Happy Daze. I totally know that lift, that's the midstation of the locke triple, slowest lift, used to jump off at the midstation on weekdays when no one was around to get faster laps in on rocking chair. My oh my how Sunday River has changed

The sequence of Pep's 180 over that guardrail in Freeze is one of my all time favourite pictures. Man I miss sequences. And Freeze.

*sigh*...
