Years back when I lived in North Carolina, I visited Hiddenite gem mine several times. I was a raging nerd. Among the rubies and sapphires and several other 3 dollar rough finds, was, now that I've gone through the collection, appears to actually be a chunk of what I think is hiddenite. And I know that shits expensive so I need some help identifying it.

Its a rough crystal that looks as if it were broken from a larger piece on one end, and the other has more of a sorta cubish shape to it some some flat faces. This chunk somewhere over the years broke off and is by itself now and just weighed out to ~30 carats. Given this is uncut and completely, flawlessly transparent, no cracks, hopefully of cutting quality, could anyone shed some light on what I should do with this or help me posatively identify it? I'm pretty close to pawning it, or seeing what they'll offer for it.

I am a rock expert. send it to me and i will examine its properties and provide you with a decisive conclusion.

I live in Winston and my sister lives in Boone. I've been to linville caves before.

Hello from NC

It's probably not what you think it is. But don't take it to a pawn shop. That is the worst thing yo ucan possibly do. Take it to a fine jewler.

Take a good photo of the crystal and its faces, try to show a clear side so I can see its cleavage and fracture.

I am studying for a masters in geology. I fucking love rocks.

A rough crystal that looks as if it were broken from a larger piece on one end? Let me call my buddy who's an expert on vaguely described rocks

You read me like a book! I'm really rock hard for this, I really hope it turns out to be cumingtonite. Just thinking about it tonight will make my bed rock!

Seriously though, every time I try to be gneiss I get the schist beaten out of me...
