And I feel terrible...

I came around the corner and it ran right in front of me. I guess it couldn't handle the power of the CRV.

Anyone else here hit animals whilst driving?

I hit a wolf coyote hybrid, but it lived so some animal rescue people picked it up and rehabilitaded it i think.

Yeah it was dead instantly. I almost shit myself though....it was so scary. My stomach was like.....all kinds of knotted 'n shit.

i hit a deer with my truck once at about 60 or 65. i saw him pop out of the bushes and into the road but it was wayy too late, my tires locked right up and i smoked the poor little guy. the deer bounced off the front of my truck and slid under a parked minivan with enough force to wedge itself under the van to the point where the rear tires were off the ground. my truck suffered absolutely no damage at all but the deer was pretty obviously dead and i felt really bad about it, but like, he really should have looked both ways. i also felt bad because that van was parked in front of a house, i went to the door and knocked to inform the people that live there that i just inadvertently added a new deer-shaped rear diffuser to their van but nobody was home, so i dont know what their reaction was when they got home and found a dead deer had mysteriously appeared completely underneath their van, but it was probably one of confusion and concern.

I hit a squirrel once. it had already made it across the road, then got scared and ran back. i felt terribl. Why you do that?

I watched a guy on a crotchrocket cut a deer in half..... he was going about 150km/hr-160km/hr.

My mom and I had to pull the half deer off the road (the other half was already off the road), we gave the guy a ride into town, which was about an hour away, because he had totaled his bike, and seemed to have broken his ankle.

Turns out the guy was an off duty cop.

THIS IS A NASTY STORY:

so one time my cousins friend was in a cycling race and a cat was going across the road and he was comin thru doin 25-30 mph and this cat gets freaked out and right as he comes by it leaps thru the spokes on the front wheel (racing bike, the spokes are further apart) and the cat gets swung around and when it stops on the fork, the spokes cut it in half due to the speed, and the dude takes a nasty wipe with a cat cut in 2 pieces.

i once hit a cat about 2 in the morning. but i stopped and it was still alive so i carried it to the side of the road and it ran away 20 minutes later. i love cats too much

Was sitting passenger when we hit a deer. Thinking about it gave me horrid flashbacks for a week. Living animals making contact with cars makes the worst sound imaginable.
But I've hit:
Squirrels, a BEAVER, a deer, birds, and a raccoon.

I wouldn't feel too bad if it was a deer or something since they are a fucking hazard and dumb as hell.

But a fox... that's rough man. I was mobbing in a van in Mt. Rainier National Park this summer and there was a fox with a dead animal in its jaws just running up the side of the road. I yelled at it to go in to the woods and it looked at me and kept running up the road. Fucking champ.

But I have run over 2 chipmunks and 1 pika. Once in aforementioned national park with a van full of people. Each time I see the little guy dart out in the road, stop, disappear from view, I yell, look in my rear view mirror and see a little thing motionless in the road.

Did anyone else learn in drivers ed that if its the size of a deer or smaller, your supposed to hit it instead of trying to swerve? like if you hit a moose your fucked.

I've seen the aftermath of a moose vs. f350 collision. Not a pretty sight for all involved.

Was sitting passenger seat on my way to Whiteface to DH bike when we hit a dog. Looked in the rearview and it twitched for a bit and then lay motionless. My dad said "At least the VW Touareg didn't have any damage" I couldn't sleep for weeks afterwards.

Similar story to op:

My mom was driving me a and a few friends home after a late night at the local mall. She was driving the speed limit, perhaps a little faster, when all of a sudden we see a flash of orange/red dart in front of the headlights. we all heard a deafening yelp followed by the inevitable double "thump" heard when driving over any small animal. my mom was absolutely traumatized, she was basically in tears the whole way home and kept asking if we should go back and see if it was just maybe still alive. in the morning we awoke to find our car's whole right front bumper completely coated with fox blood and chunks of its pelt.

one time i was in the car and we hit a deer. it was at night and it jumped into the road. we were going like 45 and clipped its rear haunch. somehow we saw it run away into the woods. our front headd light head a huge crack in it which was stuffed with torn off deer hair.
i also ran over a squirrel on an atv once. it just jumped out of its whole which was on this gravel road and i had no chance of missing it unless i had rolled the atv
also my friend accidentally ran over a squirrel on his bike once.

my dad hit a deer licking salt off the road once. it rolled of the top of his car and ran away. he also hit another one at the same time i think cuz there were two but that one just kinda blew up when he hit it

driving to my local ski shop, basically around the corner from where im living for the winter months...
im doin about 10 over... and a deer jumps out infront of me, i hammer on the breaks and swerve to dodge it. i didnt hit it, but then a whole bunch of deer cross the road infront and behind the car. i felt one with nature that moment, and looked eye to eye with one.
