So how fucked am I? (College related)

So I'm a junior in high school and currently I have a 2.9 something accumulative gpa. On my act I scored a 25. I'm being told by my parents that my college selectin is pretty shitty. My dream school is CUband I'm wondering if I even have a chance. If not whats the best I could do
 
Youre not fucked man, i got into Montana State with pretty much the exact some scores so if Boulda doesnt work out you have other options

 
what college, anyway no i have a 2.3 gpa and a 26 superscore act. and i still got into bemidji state, and im waiting for a letter from montana state (which is accepted, just some legal stuff)
 
theres like a 40% chance you'll get in being out of state with those scores.

better get a buncha nice extracurriculars to stack up that resume and make up for the rest of the holes.

and get your grades up. pssh. you only go through high school once YOLO

might as well try hard because you're gonna be there everyday anyways.
 
this. If you have an upward trend colleges will eat that shit up. It has to be good though and consistent. Also send an essay on it, even if it's not required.
 
If you don't get into any of the schools you want to, going to a community college for a year and transferring is not a bad idea...
 
You're okay, I was doing pretty poorly junior year as well and then stepped it up big time first semester of senior year and got in 6/6 schools I applied to.
 
I was in your same position but I'm a senior now. I've decided I'm going to do CC for a year then transfer to a 4-year
 
you'll be fine, i graduated with a 3.25 and a 25 ACT and i got into some alright schools. even if you go to a shitty college, if you do well there transferring is always an option.
 
truthfully if you are not a D1 athlete who makes revenue for your school you dont deserve redcued fee or free education, community service is semi understandable but really give a kid with a 2.5 and community service money to come learn, not do community service, over a kid who deserves it based on academics the basis of the institution. I wasnt saying all thoughs who get those scholarships dont deserve them but the 2.4 lacrosse player shouldnt gt 15,000 a year to do nothing for 4 years over a student who deserves to be there and will someday give back to the college. Just an example
 
mine aren't too hot either...haven't taken my real SAT yet or my ACTbut i took my PSAT and gotta 1900ish

soo...idk i'm scared haha

but i have a well over 1000hrs of community service...in highschool

and i'm an eagle scout...

so will that help?
 
PSAT really doesnt reflect how you will do very well. I scored like 50th percentile on it , but then got a 1940 on my SAT and 31 on my ACTIm an eagle scout too, and it helps a shitload
 
Go green and join the Army. Not exactly at Air Force level yet, but the Army will take you. Do your four years, get out and go to school for free. Even if you were in the Army, I'm sure the school you want to get into will take you.

1. Coast through high school.

2. Join Army for 4 years and get free schooling.

3. ????

i had a 2.4 or so and like idk a little below a 1600 and i got into CU Boulder. I was kind of surprised but id say your fine.
 
First of all I'm going to stop you right there no one deserves anything in life. Life is unfair you need to deal with it. Second of all yes grades are important but guess what it's high school there kids and don't understand the Importance of education and grades yet. Unlike hs in college you don't have to take a bunch of stupid classes you're never going to apply to your life. So yes they give different scholarships for different things. To say some kid should get money over another kid because she can read a book and take a test better,and has nothing else going on in his life. deserves to get free money Over a kid who didn't do as much reading and studying but had a very active social life in his community is a stupid thing to say.
 
I had a 2.9 and a 26 on the ACT and I graduate from Boulder this May. You should be good.

That said, you have a much better shot at Arts and Sciences than business. I was denied for business and accepted for AS.
 
I dont see it as a stupid thing to say at all. Overall usually people who do the community service have the grades to get scholarships anyway, but what youre saying is that kids with bad grades should get scholarships because we assume they treated hs like a joke and will mature. No thats fuckig idiotic the people who should be getting the money are the ones who tried in hs. As well as your joke classes, once again the kids who tried and scheduled AP and honors classes should be getting money to come to a school rather than the 2.7 student with 500 hrs of community service. IM not oppossed to these kids getting scholarships im oppossed to them getting money that should be going to students that are academically more advanced. Community Service is not bad, its a great thing and ahould play a factor but not as large as it does sometimes. And once again to those who dont understand the importance of education in hs you dont belong in secondary education, a least not until you mature
 
Go to community college for a year or two, get a 4.0 GPA there (not that difficult) taking gen ed classes, and when you apply to a real school, your HS grades and ACT scores won't mean shit.
 
i wouldnt worry too much about it man. when i applied i was in a similar situation, gpa wise, and I was decently involved with other shit like sports and a few clubs in high school. I got in to most everywhere i applied, including CU bolder, and im at Northeastern now.

Just aim to be the kid they accept to keep their average GPA from getting too high haha that was my approach
 
how about you try living in the shoes of someone with a disability you fuck? i am getting scholarship money for a brain disease i have and my grades are sub par.
 
I wouldn't say you're screwed, work your senior year, get that GPA up. Not too terribly difficult really. Admissions boards always notice an upward trend. Just buckle down and work at it. I had rather massive brain surgery in high school and I made it through just fine with good grades, so I'm sure you can do the same.
 
haha my man you are far from screwed. If worse comes to worse you go to a community college, get a high 3 GPA, and transfer to basically any school you want to transfer too.
 
you got a chance. Work your ass off for the rest of high school. maybe consider taking a gap year and do something cool and different (NOLS courses look good for college) then apply after you have matured a little. You may not have as many options as someone with better grades and test scores but you will have plenty of options. good luck man
 
I cant make assumptions since Im not in your situation but if i was I would want a level playing field, and want to overcome whats going on by not being rewarded for it but by overcoming it and doing just as well as someone without the disease,
 
You might get a better job from going to college, but there is nothing wrong with working your way up the ladder the old fashioned way. You might have to work harder in the long run though.

I'm currently going to college, but I have found that my experience from jobs and just life in general has been more valuable than what i have learned in class. Job experience can be just as good as a college education in many employers eyes.

That said, college is also good for partying and shit, which can be a bummer to miss out on
 
you arnt screwed. get your shit together or sacrifice your social life for a semester at CC. Even with a 2.0 you can get into some state schools.
 
Colleges like to see upward trends in GPA. Do really well in school from here on and the schools will understand what you're capable of.
 
Honestly, thats how I personally feel about the situation. I had a massive tumor removed when I was 16, and it affected a whole bunch of stuff. I worked my ass off in order to get grades, and get everything. That way when I actually got numerous decent scholarships, it wasnt just because I had that setback, its because I beat the shit out of that setback. I recovered however, so I suppose it may be different yet. I have always lived by the fact that you are never just handed anything, you constantly have to make what you want to happen, happen. So eh, I dont know. I am fortunate enough to where I find academics relatively easy though, so for people it doesn't come as easy to I'm sure they are working their ass off a lot of times even if they dont have stellar grades. So pretty much the whole scholarship thing is all in relation to a given individual's situation.
 
i had the same GPA and a 24 on my ACT, but 27's on math and science.

i got into CU, CSU, and bozeman. three solid schools.

but that was in 2004, now kids have ridiculously inflated GPAs b/c everyone gets a gold star.
 
it was only out of 1600, not even that long ago actually i think in 05 maybe, we took it the first time try added the new section but even than it didn't count since it was just a test to see how it would work out
 
How about YOU step down from that high horse before you hurt yourself, and realize you're not the only one in the world with a disability.
 
He didn't say he was, he was just saying, in a rather rude way, that there are people with disabilities that get/need scholarships because they can't pay for collage or whatever their reason. You don't need to be a dick for no reason.
