So basically my mom told me to "Stop Skiing"

so you have the availability to have rides to the hill, you have enough cash for a pass, you have the gear... why be on a ski team? why sign any waiver? just get a pass, get rides from your homies, and go shred. dont ever let someone tell you you cant or are not meant to do something. unless its drugs, users are losers and winners dont use drugs.
 
I ride mx and I got pretty f'ed up last year and now my parrents think skiing is safe my dad said "I'll be happy when its winter and ur off that bike and at the mtn"
 
My mom also wants me to stop riding park. But given the fact that i'm of legal age, buy all my own gear, pay for my own season pass, have friends that live near the montain where i can sleep for free, and make enough money on top fo everything to live on my own if she kicks me out, there is pretty much nothing she can do to stop me. Well, she could pull a knife out on me, but i doubt shes got the balls.
 
maybe your mom ( who you say is a pretty good skier) doesn't think you have the skills for freestyle skiing and is just trying to save herself some $ and you some pain. 
 
my parents flipped shit when i did my first backflip, i was 12. they made me write a 500 word essay on paraplegia and quadriplegia and said i couldn't go skiing until it was finished. bottom line man is that if you really love it, you may have to pay for it yourself and hope that your parents see how much you love it and learn to accept it. good luck man

im an asshole. i also meant to say that that sucks and that.. um.. just tell her you can do what you want depending on how old you are and just do it. tell her she doesnt have to pay for anything, and you take full responsibility and do everything for skiing for yourself if she doesnt give in to the thing that truly makes you happy.

your mother is just being unrealistic. tell her you know the risks, and if you are paying for ski team, you should have every right to do it, and she should follow your decision.

same here, my mom jus snowshoes while me my dad and sis ski, my dad probally loves it more than i do.

but for the og poster, just tell her to stop being a doctor, cause a runaway gurnie(like the things you lay on when they put you in a ambulence) migt go flying down a hilla dn break her legs, posibly breaking ehr back, then she woudl be paryalized. or soem other bs like that.

dude, that really sucks! My dad loves skiing with me (watching me trick) he even hits a jump if he's feelin frisky (he's gonna be 58) so i guess I lucked out. oh and my mom doesn't want to see, hear, or know anything about the spinny-flippy stuff lol.

calling the coach and making a list are the best Ideas I've seen, so try that.

... what's this about back protectors? I've broke quite a bit of myself, but I never let my back heal (supposedly you shouldn't ski a month after you break it in four places) so what back protectors do you guys use? or maybe a good link?
 
i was climbing a bunch and I wanted to join the local gym's team... but my mom wouldn't sign the waver/ pay for it. They said skiing is safer, so I started to do park... haha now i've had a bunch of injuries. surgery, PT, MRIs...blah blah blah

I'm not going to stop skiing. You can make it work. good luck dude.

ummmm your 16? so am I... you need to man the fuck up here i never understand why people let their parents boss them around so much, get a friend to sign the waiver and tell your mom that your just going skiing with friends. If she finds out that you're actually in the camp then tell her it was your only option because you couldn't just let her wreak your passion.

no joke it will work, just show your parents what it means to you
 
My mom is cool with me doin "spinny things" and "flippy things" she just says to do it when shes not around. My dad on the other hand is like "You ski way too fast and out of control". I had a huge crash one day skiing out of control and broke my crowbars (claim those thing are indestructible). So whenever I fall and hurt myself or break equipment I'm like "Oh, I was skiing carefully going slow when all of the sudden I caught an edge and my ski came off and I fell all the way down the hill." Here's what you gotta do: have her watch Reasons then she can see your Reasons for skiing and you can Reason with her and she'll let you ski park again. Then if she still doesn't let you ski pretend to change your mind and be all like your right. Then maybe she'll let you ski groomers but you just go to the park instead.
 
same dude i'm 16 and my parents are cool with my ski racing and doing anything in the park except flips. it makes me so mad cuz flips are the funnest thing for me anyways. so i tried reasoning with them and they would absoloutly not budge on it, even tho i've never got hurt doing flips or anything. so now i just do them only around my friends who know whats up. they just say nothing and noboby suffers. it just kinda sucks cuz i'm always really scared to do them cuz they'll see me. if i ever have kids i'm just gonna be like "get a good coach learn stuff right and do it in a supervized area". and my parents are the same with my downhill mountain biking. you pretty much just gotta lie and hope for the best. and never brag about it to randoms or whatever cuz it always gets around to the rents. good luck

That sucks when your mom don't support you. I had that with my parents and skiing for different reasons and had plenty of arguments about it. Since she told you to pick another sport you should show her all of the injuries you can get in some other sports. Anything can happen to you in any sport.
Good luck with your mom and skiing. If skiing is what you want to do, fight for it. It worked out for me and now I have a sweet job and still skiing a bunch.

but anyway, that's stupid that your mom keep you from skiing. all sports carry some risk. just be like "you should be glad i'm spending my time skiing and not (insert drug use here)".

that's what i say to my mom whenever she gets mad about me going out late or something. good thing she supports me skiing as much as i possibly can. jea
 
1. hahahaa, you can ski and still get pussy my friend(even tho your snowboarding buddies might be telling you otherwise, its just cause they dont want you to feel bad about yourself), dont try to use that as an excuse

2. umm no, and how about backcounty knowlegde, and avalanche knowlege is something you can study your whole life and still learn all the time.

you don't know how much all this means to me, shes turned around knowing how much i love it,

and now i just need to get the money from my dad (he's in nova scotia and im in edmonton)

its gonna be tough but ill take it as a christmas present or somethin

shes still really weary about letting me do this except i have all the confidence in the world that itll all be out for the best
