Wondering if anyone has tried ordering anything from this websitehttps://www.selltopshop.com because the prices on everything are too good to be true. If this isn't a scam I'm about for order like 5 pairs of skis at once... Says in their FAQS page

1. How can the prices are far below market price ?

The answer is that we are offering Procurement Service : to buy on someone's behalf. We have aguarantee of quality , and for 10 days (from the date products were received ) , if you find the products with quality problems (Non- human factors or non- resistant external damage ) , it can be returned and exchanged.

So theoretically they acquire the skis from the warehouse that produces them for the company because they have an overstock of them, but then why did brands like K2 and Atomic have so many left over skis? Seems really really sketchy honestly, but like I said if it's really I'd buy like 5 pairs of skis at once.

A friend sent me link this morning which is the same site but different URL, not a good sign to me, somebody can try it and report back if they actually get a pair of poachers for that cheap. But it's not gonna be me

was about to buy some $7 poles to try it out but the fact that you have to use a card and not paypal or something like that sketches me out, not trying to have my identity stolen.

even if it is legit I'm sure the product is like bottom of the barrel factory blems/fuckups that would fall apart pretty quick.
 
I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole. IF you want to risk it you could get an amex gift card or something.
 
I've definitely seen low prices on stuff like this before for sites that sold liquidated products (IE Like when you started to see revision skis ending up on websites all while those who legit bought them hadn't even received theirs - those skis had likely been through asset liquidation, and were picked up via liquidators who took them at like 10% of their margin value and sold them to skis.com or something for #profit)

This does seem like a trick, however the one thing I notice is that everything is previous-years model or colourway. So either it hasn't been updated, or all they have are last years gear and they got it all as a liquidator from some distributor that went belly up. I doubt that they have an in that's good enough to get all of those products from that many companies at rates that are all about equal. Seems un-legit af.

I'd also reckon to bet that even if they did somehow manage all of that, they don't have all the sizes on-hand. i'd bet that they aren't going to have nordica striders in a size 26.5 going for 70 bucks... but they might have them in 25's, 29's, 30's, and 31's... maybe...

I'm gonna call bullshit. They don't even have correct MAP/MSRP prices on a lot of products..

Would be pretty slick to pick up a pair of Backland Carbons for 80 bucks, though.
 
I've seen this same site advertising with several different names on FB. The link always goes to exactly the same listing.

It's pretty tempting to purchase boots for $58... particularly since I need new boots and that's so little money. But then... I need to add another product to get free shipping...and then I really could use those $7 poles... still under $100 for the 3 products.

But yes, it's a brand new site and it's extremely suspicious looking. So I guess I shouldn't spend my money...and then have to spend time during the ski season fighting the charge on my credit card.

There are just too many negatives.

Seems too good to be true. Gonna follow this to see if anyone gets a gift card and orders a pair of pole or something low cost. Would love a pair of $60 boots though!

Scamfoo overview (no idea what Scamfoo is)

-domain created 16 days ago (risky)

-server located in US (maybe, prob proxy)

-One site listed this as a threat/scam but gave no reason. Perhaps too early to tell.

Domain search: straight out of China, qinghai province. This screams scam, but also could explain cheap prices- unlikely however.

Google search: topshop.com is a legit sales website, however this (selltopshop.com) is a variation of that name. Sites using variations of real companies and websites can be suspicious as they give a false sense of security when people associate the scam site with the real site. Usually scams.

Word of wise on social network ads: this means nothing and does not prove it's not a scam. Facebook and Google are reactive for ads. They don't scan prior. They rely on people to report. If you've ever bought an ad before, it's incredibly simple and cheap to do so. Election fraud by Russia is a prime example of this.

Also "scam advisor" used earlier in this thread gets a bad rating from WOT (web of trust) so I wouldn't consider it to be a good source of information. WOT has saved my ass too many times to count.

So next step to check out on laptop:

-interestingly, this site has valid SSL cerfiticates. Images used are definitely from China. It's in their titles.

-Website is https.

-Now for the details. Many scam sites have typos or bad capitalization or grammer. At the bottom, payment is "PayMent", newsletter is "NewsLetter". Throughout their descriptions, there's weird capitalization.

-They lie in their "about us" section and say they've been online since 2008. Domain name started 16 days ago.

-"most items are covered by repair and replacement policy".....red flag.

-Their privacy policy is a joke. It's a single poorly worded page. HUGE RED FLAG.

-They posted an image of visa, mastercard, McAfee, verisign, and DHL at the bottom of site. It's an image. They should always be links. They're also using an old verisign logo. I contacted verisign and they said they sold their SSL certificate part of business to Symantec. It should now be called digicert.

-their faq section #9 mentions some bullshit about cross border fees and license fees by cred card companies. This is hogwash. I've purchases numerous products overseas. Sure there's customs fees, but those are incurred at checkout in shipping fees. A credit card company never extra charges. INSANELY LARGE RED FLAG.

-Its a poorly built website. All photos are stock website photos and not actually taken.

-Their brand section and discount percents are random as fuck.

-Their logo looks some sort of Word 95 Clip Art.

-Ski sizes don't actually match for model and years. Only pictures do. HUGE RED FLAG. Likely selling intangible products and won't ship them. See Blizzard bonafide.

-Password requirements are weak. They don't check addresses for accuracy. Shipping option is "best way". Lol seriously!?

Tldr: it's a scam. If you really want to waste your money, use a prepaid credit card or a low limit card with fraud protection.
 
But seriously don't even waste your money. Goodwill has $5 poles. Ski swaps and the BST section here have good deals. Think rationally.

Also, OP should test it out with a prepaid card, would be interesting to see what happens.

If its as bad of a scam as it seems, you may just be able to use something with like $.01 on it and they wont notice because they have no intention of ever shipping a product.

I evaluated just about everything on the site except purchasing items. Look up. It's a scam. Don't fall for it folks.
 
how did one of you find out who created/owns/listed/registered (whatever the term is) the web-site? i thought I saw an email address for the site owner somewhere............
