Snowparks in Switzerland open in May

I’ve skied tignes before in August. Not much of a park though, iirc one or two rails and a huge booter at the bottom. This was maybe 7 or 8 years ago so things might have changed now. Might have an enormous park or maybe nothing at all.

Oh fuck. I can’t read haha. Tignes is in France but not difficult to drive over the border into France. It’s an awesome place in summer, worth the trip

all good, might have to consider France then...

Forget the alps and jump into a plane heading to Northern Sweden. Battlefields of Riksgränsen are waiting for you.

Laax usually leaves some features up but you have to organize your own way up to the snow. Sometimes they take people in the gondola. You could bike up.

Zermatt switches to the smaller glacier with the chairlift during May. They usually have a small park but nothing guaranteed.

I used to ride Diablerets/Glacier 3000 in May but I believe that fun is over.

In my opinion, the best riding in May is in:

- Ischgl / Samnaun (border Switzerland-Austria) until May 4th 2025.

- Kaunertal glacier (Austria) until May 18th 2025.

- Passo Stelvio (border Switzerland-Italy) opens mid-May whenever the pass opens. You can stay in Sta. Maria and take the Umbrail pass to ski there. This place is like Mammoth in the summer. Highly recommended.

But passo stelvio doesnt have a park or does it. I was there once just one day after prinoth xcamp and they flew down already all the rails with a helicopter. Sadly the glacier is melting also rapidly and they needed to decunstruct the first lift. But last time i went there was in 2021 so i dont know how the park sitiuation is right now. If there is a park i would go there instantly

Every time I've been, there has been a small park, but it's also been a while for me. Their website is garbage so it is impossible to find out. Maybe best to call ahead and ask them.

This year is a mess anyway with them having to rebuild one of their T-bars. It's not due to the melting glacier by the way - apparently, the lift masts were not stored properly over the winter and they found them covered in 15 meters of snow and damaged (!)

One more option would be Mölltaler Gletscher in Austria. It's fairly unknown because they build the park for the first time this season, but they were open until mid June and also plan it like this for the next season. Probably also the cheapest option (Daypass is 30-45€ or even cheaper if you are a student).

Actually, they typically leave everything in place for a few days after the season ends in April. However, they usually clean up and move everything up to the top of Grap Sogn Gion afterwards. Right now, there's no snow left there, and it's important to note that the park crew wouldn't appreciate it if you rearrange things on your own.

I was talking about May (see original post). They usually leave 2-3 features in place a few weeks after the season end for various photo shoots.

This year they even experimented with opening this up to the public with a special ticket one saturday after season end. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate.

Here's a pic from Laax from June this year. If you look closely there were still plenty of small kickers to ride and good snow.
