Bought out by Snow Farm who own the car testing facility next door I believe (edit: they don't own the land, that's SHPG)
That and I don't think it made that much money, Cardrona pulled in 95% of traffic from Wanaka it seemed anyway

Apparently they tried to turn it into a resort type of mountain like the ones they have in the US. My uncle built some apartment buildings there and my auntie was also employed by them but not to sure what she did. the apartments where only up for season or two but they could never turn a profit (because of not enough people going) and pay off contractors like my uncle for the work that they had done. this alongside with other factors I presume led to them shutting down the ski feild.

snow farm isn't just a car testing facility its actually a ski field but pretty much just cross country skiing (the only cross country ski field in NZ). I went there years ago when I was really young and it was actually pretty good it had a little lodge you could stay at at the far end of the field and it apparently has some good terrain if you keep going a bit further out.
