Snowmobile insurance?

Not sure how many of you own sleds, but if you do, do you insure it? Thinking bout dropping in on a brand new RMK 800 and trying to get a feeler for what it might cost to insure it.

Seems like since you only ride for 4 months out of the year it might not be too bad?

If the only thing you were going to do is go to trail head to base of mountain I'd say go no insurance. But are you gonna rally it to the top? Are you gonna go off any jumps or cornices? Are you gonna do anything intense with it? If so get some insurance.

that isnt what sled insurance is for. thats what your warranty is for.

insurance, atleast in BC, for sleds is mainly to cover your ass if its stolen, is destroyed if you crash your truck with it on it, and if you hit someone on the trail. I paid $436 for a full year on mine. covers you for a year and provides you with a heli trip out from the backcountry if she breaks down and your friends cant tow you out.

the biggest value i saw in it is if you slam into someone, or vice versa, then you are covered for the personal damages insued. the amount of times ive come ripping around corners to be face to face with some sledneck blows me away how a collision has never happened.

Also, riding in BC, police have started to patrol the backcountry (I wish I was joking) in really high traffic areas like whistler, revelstoke, and valemont. The biggest thing they are looking for is that your sled is registered so has that stupid yellow sticker on it, and now if you paid to ride in that area from a snowmobile club its becoming that you need insurance as well.

BC is a little different from other places though and its just starting to shift into mandatory registration and insurance. Ive heard that in the prairies and the east coast you need insurance becuase trails cross over roads there so its absolutely mandatory.

If you wreck your sled or your engine blows I know the insurance will help you out a bit but good fucking luck getting money out of ICBC for a new sled before the end of the season.

Yea, if I just wanted something to get me to the trailhead I wouldn't be dropping 13 grand on a brand new mountain sled. I probably spend more time slednecking than sledskiing. Both will likely result in me breaking the sled at some point.

I was under the impression that insurance covered any collision (not just when your transporting it). I'm not worried about my sled getting stolen, I'm worried about putting it into a tree or destroying my arm and shocks on rock (both things I've done before).

The warrantee will cover against mechanical defects. I need something to cover my sled when I fuck up

ye not 100% on that. I think it does, but you would have to check it out for your specific company.

insure it. my '12 RMK was $236 for 6 months. if you're going to spend 12 G's on a sled, whats another 2-3 hundred. covers theft and if you ghost ride it into the trees, amongst other things
