Snowboarder switching to Skiing

I'm a snowboarder and I've been snowboarding for a while so I can flip and stuff so I'm decently good, but I keep up to date on newschoolers and watch more ski videos than snowboarding but idk if it would be worth it to switch to skiing for how far I am into snowboarding. What should I do? Anyone go through this similar kind of situation

I am like this. Do both if you can afford it try and buy some used skis for your first few years till you get good but don't just stick to one if you like both

I had to make this decision prior to last season and I have to say choosing to ski was one of the best decisions I've ever made... I think it had to do with how comfortable I was on snowboards that allowed for rapid progression( used to speed and what not). I went from pizza skiing my first run to going down the black diamonds same day... By the end of the season, I could ski swith comfortably, 360 on decent size jumps, do butter box spins and ride rails easily. Not sayin this as a bragging point( this is nothing compared to most people!), but as a gage of how much you may expect to progress in the first season alone... On top of this, I was novice as far as snowboarding in the park goes... I couldn't do shit, so u can expect even more improvement. And I'm going to be honest, even just learning things the first day like how to turn, was more fun than I had ever had on a snowboard... And no more buckling and unbuckling bindings! On a final note, you spending more time watching ski videos may say something about what you were meant to do :)

I would say get a cheap used pair of skis and see how much you like it before you go out and buy nice skis, boots etc.

If you like it better then go for it and do what makes you happy. If skiing's not for you tho don't force yourself into it. You seem like a decent boarder if what your saying is true, so it wouldn't make sense to give that up.

I did what Mingg said. Snowboarding to skiing was such an easy transition. Just learn it on your own. It took me like 3 days to get to doubles.

Idk where you ski but black diamonds can be highly over rated. If you just switched over stay the hell out of the park and learn to ski. Learn proper form, technique, carving, moguls, etc. Helps immensely and really make skiing way more fun when your actually good at it. Park skiers get old quick...you don't see many 40 year old dudes hitting rails for a reason. Don't be that guy who can do backflips and cork 7's but cant make a proper turn if his life depended onit. Always laugh at those clowns

Have you ever skied before? I was a snowboarder for about 7 or 8 years before I picked up skiing and I found it to feel much more natural. I also progressed much faster than I ever did when I was snowboarding.

Make the switch if its what interests you man! I boarded for twelve years and then tried skiing one day and ended up liking it. So I tried a bit and within a week did my instructors course. Thought I was gonna just do both but switched two years ago and never going back! Learnt bio 9s with different grabs and whole ton of rail tricks all because of the base that I got from snowboarding! So worth it!!

I was a snowboarder growing up and once I turned 20 I started skiing. It was so much more fun to ski especially since I was the only one in my group of friends that didn't ski. As a ski instructor, I like to tell my students (which are adults) that snowboarding is harder to learn but easier to do, and skiing is harder to learn, but easier to do. I plateaued on my snowboard and didn't feel like I was getting better as an overall rider. Park was fun but I wasn't super good at it despite my skateboarding skills. I have now been skiing for 5 seasons and I am learning new things every time I click in.

TL,DR long time snowboarder, skiing is more rewarding to me. Do what you want and is fun to you.

Do what ever you want. I only skied for years, did both for a couple, only boarded for years, then last season grabbed some skis again to tool around on. I like skiing a lot now because I got so bad at it from not doing it for a while and everyday I go out I get better.

Honestly whatever keeps you having fun on the slopes. Switched to skis, never ski, do both, seriously do whatever man.

We're glad to have you here man. Borrow a friend's pair of twin tips for a day if you can, to see if you like it. Or if you're almost certain you're going to love it, just go ahead and buy a pair and get started! It'll be worth it, believe me.

Just imagine not having to strap in every time you get off the lift

i switched 3 years ago, not having any experience skiing i started my first year in the park. Had so much fun and sold my board. i think the only tricks i learned my first year were 180, 360, and a backflip(backcountry jump).

Because that's SOOOOOOOOOOO difficult. Could go the other way and say "Just imagine staying attached to your equipment in the park.

The real plus in terms of skiing is getting in and out of the backcountry sometimes. IF there are paths already beaten down skiers can skate right along but if you're on a board you're slowing the whole thing down :(

Went through the same thing man snowboarder for ten years loved it but just thought skiing always looked dope so when I moved out to winter park I bought used skis bindings boots n tried it out..I told myself I was gunna do both but I didn't touch my board after I got on the ski..bet decision I've made lol good luck

me and nutz share the same experience. I used to snowbboard and switched to skiing two years ago. It was sooo worth it. Skiing imo is 10x more fun and looks a lot cooler. It's a lot easier to learn the basics but learning freestyle is harder than on a snowboarder.

It's all relative. Some people can throw on either and do well in the park right away. Other than being able to 50/50 way easier they're both pretty much the same. Different tricks are harder on one than the other but it evens out.

And looking cooler? I mean I love skiing but that's kind of a dumb point. There are some agreed upon things like scooters, snowblades etc but for the most part it's all up to the person.

IF OP is bored with boarding quit and go ski. Same with somebody who is bored of skiing. It doesn't matter. What ever floats your boat and get's you shredding on the hill.

Try it, its fun. I switched permanently to skiing because 99% of my skiing is billygoating in trees and such and being able to sidestep traverse pole plant and skate made my life a billion times easier

i made the switch 2 seasons ago and it was one of the best decisions i have made. i was just like you, i watched more ski videos than snowboard videos. i made the switch 2 seasons ago.

as for the transition, i found skiing to be fairly easy to learn (or pick up again- i skied from the time when i was 4 till the time i was 7). within 2 days, i was hitting rails and jumps and had no trouble getting down the mountain.

in the end, its your choice whether you want to switch or not. do whatever you think is more fun.

I know it's a dumb point but in my opinion I just like the way the tricks look in free skiing then in snowboarding. Something about crossing skis mid air and doing crazy ass tricks with two planks attached to your feet gets me a little moist
