Snowboard Big Air will never be the same again

Thought this deserved its own thread. After last night's performance at X Games Big Air, the standards by which SB big air comps are judged will be different forever. The riders needed two different triples to even make the podium, and Torstein Horgmo had to drop a switch backside triple to win. I felt like I was seeing history take place watching the last minutes of that comp.

Though I don't think we'll be at quite the same level as the boarders, I'm confident that skiing will see a similar explosion in new tricks and a new judging standard in tonight's comp. Super stoked to watch it and I wish all the skiers luck.

I wonder what this means for competitions in the future. Maybe just a lot of riders falling flat on their faces with triple attempts on jumps that aren't big enough for it? Has X set a new standard for the size and quality of big air jumps?

on a side note, the snowboard street was fucking pathetic. not the video parts but the actually competition that was on while ski slope eliminations were on was the most god awful thing ive ever witnessed

Yeah that was crazy. And whoever had to get carried off in the elim rounds looked like he could have tucked for a quad... They'll either have to do a ridiculous dub with some great grab combo or just do triples now. Like this is stuff I was doing in ssx tricky and though it was impossible or just total fantasy.

We were there last night watching the pipe final and snowboard big air and one of the snowboardists had a massive fall and knocked himself out pretty badly. They stopped the event and didn't resume it until after we left. Does anyone know what happened to him??

Im assuming you mean Halldor? He was unconscous (sp?) for a few minutes, but he said a few words such as the date and where he was when they were carrying him off the course. And he gave a peace sign to the crowd haha

Yeah, Halldor Helgason is the guy you're talking about. The commentators said that he went to hospital and was diagnosed with a bad concussion, he's concious and talking though so he should be fine. Gnarly crash though.... Nothing like a triple backflip to the face..

why did they feel the need to give and extra round at the end. that was bullshit. "mcmorris isn't winning guys lets give them all another run"

If the first guy gets to go, they all go. I know the clock ran out, but fuck it. That ending was dope.

yea it's like that but the announcers said that they were getting an extra round after the clock hit 0. the second last guy was dropping in when it hit 0
