Snowbird 2016

I know most people probably don't care. Many actually would be disappointed. Some would be ecstatic.

I'm not sure how I would feel.

But is there any legitimacy to the rumors that under Snowbird's new ownership they are bringing back a larger/more complete terrain park this winter?

If Snowbird made a big park again, there'd be no reason to go anywhere else in Utah. I'd be stoked to see it happen. I don't know much about park construction/usable locations, but I think they should put one on the Baldy lift. There's not much goin on over there right now, and seems like there are some pretty open and mellow slopes. Bring back the baby thunder park too haha.

I don't really care if they make a better park, I just hope they aren't incompetent about closures like they were last winter. Terrain was closed for weeks at a time despite having plenty of coverage. Elevator opened a month later than it should have. Death Center didn't open at all despite having plenty of coverage for a while. Get Serious closed a month earlier than it should have. Normally I respect ski patrollers (and especially Snowbird patrollers) but whoever was making the calls last winter is apparently incapable of grasping the concept that some people are capable of skiing something a little more difficult than Big Emma.

The incompetent decision making has made me seriously consider not going back to Snowbird this winter.

Except some of the gnarliest skiable chutes at Snowbird. I would be fine with a park there as long as it's not in Fossil's runout.

Ha the east side of the lift is pretty much greens and maybe a blue or two. I don't think having a park there would affect those chutes. That'd be one extreme park if they had it go through chutes ha

so exactly what are you basing your terrain opening competence on

years of terrain opening, patrolling and snow safety experience?

or 3 seasons of buying a pass?

there is no SHADOW of doubt

you don't have a clue as to what it takes

let me help

It has nothing to do with avalanche danger/snow safety when the entire area is open except for a closed sign at the top of one specific line due to exposed rock while the terrain is open a few feet away on each side and along the entire traverse above it and the entire runout below it.

big ole wasatch full of sickgnars thats always open all you need to go ski it is gumption

and competence in your terrain choices and decisions

or you can ski the terrain patrol chooses to open and whine about THEIR decisions

Wouldn't really care nor would I be opposed to it. They toned their park down due to lawsuits, correct?

I remember hearing rumours of terrain expansions into that gulch right next to The Bookends which wouldnt be a bad idea. Would alleviate crowds in Mineral and would give us a bit more room to play with on top of some more mellow runs for people to cruise down.

All speculation though and we'll just have to see. Excited regardless, I had a ton of fun last year despite the snowfall.

Yeah, I heard this rumor too. That'd be rad if they put a lift there. I also heard they were toying with the idea of putting another lift above Gad 2 or making gad 2 longer...I don't think I'd be a fan of that though. I'd like how tiger tail is way less skied than regular runs.

Still hoping for a big new park haha

Would be rad as fuck, honestly. Just worried about them building up something awesome then having to tear it down because some dipshit goomba got hurt and sued the place. I remember hearing thats why they toned their stuff down in recent years, but honestly the park last year was easily one of the most sketchy things ive ever seen. Those jumps were basically lips sending you right into mounds of snow. A well manicured park would probably save their asses if anything.

Park booters + Deep pow and rad terrain would be a wet dream, though. It would easily make snowbird the most complete ski resort in Utah.

its honestly hilarious how bad the snowbird park has been the past few years. the rainbow rail they set up is unhittable and basically just a metal obstacle haha.

very true, scary as fuck and full of tetanus lol.

on a side note, how does everyone feel about the RFID passes this year? hopefully it will make lines go by somewhat quicker because some of those deep days last year were unfuckingbelievably busy but the skiing was epic. I remember lines at gadzoom feeding past the slow signs and almost to the parking lot. I haven't skied bird enough to know how bad it can get but id imagine it would get way worse on some days.

The best skier in the wasatch should not complain about trivial shit like this. Whip out your cock and smash that closed sign out of your way and ski that chute that is rightfully yours.
