does anyone have any experience with making snow? it’s been pretty cold where i’m at, but getting no snow, so i want to build a diy snow maker in my backyard for my rail setup? anybody have any advice/ideas on cost

if you have an older air compressor you dont care about you can definitely build one with a pressure washer and compressor. They work pretty dang good when done right.

Snowmaking as a diy project=sick

snowmaking as a job=you either die or have a series of lifechanging injuries.

Making snow is awesome, love doing it when its cold out. You need a pressure washer (electric or gas) and an air compressor that produces at least 4.0 cfm @90psi. From there, you gotta construct the snowmaker itself with galvanized pipe (not black pipe, its cheaper but rusts and ruins everything you made). If you want me to walk you through it send me a message.

yes. try out snowguns.com and find them on fb. a lot of those people know a lot about residential snow making. that community helped me build one a few years back. great people

Care to elaborate? I've always known snowmaking is a raw job, but never knew the particulars

All you need to know is to stay away from them at all costs. A dude I knew had a snowmaking job for 2 seasons and he died halfway through the second one. A bunch of equipment caught on the lift tower as he was riding up and he got snagged in all of it. He probably didn’t even die on the impact, he died from all the shit falling on him afterwards.

its not that bad, just bring extra socks and gloves, know how to self arrest, and don't stick your face over a hydrant

In the 2 months I was a snowmaker 1 guy died in a snowmobile accident and a friend at another mountain lost an eye and a bunch of teeth.

Snowmakers are on a different level. I'm not kidding either.
