Snow in crested butte?

Can someone give me a quick update on the conditions in CB? Whats open? Anyone been in the backcountry lately? Hope to be out there by end of the month....

CB is getting quite a bit of snow right now actually. So far, nothing is really open. That will change by this time next week. Last year, we got two big storms and the mountain was 100% open before Christmas.

Right now, there are 3 quads open. Silver Queen, Red Lady, and Paradise. Not many runs, but that is changing today.

so you think that a lot of the extremes will be open after christmas then? Im going on the 3rd and would be bummed if i couldnt ski the bannana funnel

Theyr still not really open, but have hope, theyv been getting sooooo much snow, like over 50 inches in about 8 days...dumped on i'll be there jan. 7 to 10th hoping to get some sled skiing in

banana and funnel are two different runs.... Also back country is a mess....one really bad layer between the ground and snow, one in the mid pack...and a heavy load on top....

Sorry, on the map it looks like one name/trail.....I was thinking about going with one of those backcountry guide groups with 4 people for only like $150, since its so cheap, instead of a 6th day on the mountain. Would you not suggest that then cause its so sketchy and all the good stuff is dangerous??

your best bet would be to call them and ask what the conditions are like, and what type of terrain they would guide you to given said conditions. Im in Chicago for the holidays so i'm not sure exactly what's going on in the mountains. CB mountain guides are great though. Check CBAVALANCHECENTER.ORG for current back country conditions to give you an idea of the current danger level.
