Snow chains

What chains are you guys using? Pros/cons? I’m looking to upgrade my old school boomer chains to some pewag self tensioning or other brand.
 
I have snow tires/4wd but some roads require chains during certain times idw a ticket

I’ve never actually had to put them on

I live in norway, I just had to dig my car out... felt relevant to thread! guess the make/model :D

just dug out around it, drove out

only heavy cargo veichles need chains here, and usually because they cant get proper tires with their weight class

Damn that would suck to dig oneself out of that much snow.

Actual snow tires I throw on every December and off in April

My worries are the passes that require chains in Co etc

4wd/awd with actual snow tires or "mountain snowflake" symboled tires you should have no need of chains even on the passes.
 
Oh thx… I had read that and was unsure, didn’t wanna take the risk

It’s in the front yard with a for sale sign, and listed on Audizine forums. I’ll probably do an auto trader ad pre spring I’m too cheap to run one multiple months

if you were interested I’ll str8 up tell you it’s a lot of gr8 things, and a money pit is one of them, I have pics if you want

its actually been a huge mistake to sell on there, I posted my personal email and everyone’s real mature no bs, just a million will you take xxx$, or will you part this, do you have this factory part still…. What will it cost to put cats back on , even had a guy ask if the he had to press the clutch in or if it was auto clutch I was like fuck you need a car with less horsepower ?

posted on Audi world as well but that sites dead, I’m gonna park it at its tuner with a for sale sign and post on auto trader and sell in in spring if I haven’t might get more than the 20k I’m asking…. I’ve seen 30, 45k but that’s nuts asking for money for mods I just want fair value the mods are a plus if you like, a turn off if not and it’s in gr8 condition so I want it gone before the next malfunction

I use snow tires.

Really beefy chains are fun, but you need a lot of clearance for them, like a truck. If you're ever in a rainstorm in desert silt that's the way. I have some but rarely use them, but it's comforting to have them sometimes.

For cars (audi subie) cable chains will fit in a clearance sense, and they're easier to install, and they'll got you through a lot. If I were just going after compliance I'd get these. Not the quickie spider ones.

I've had experiences in FWD cars with snow billowing over the hood and fat chains on there. Fun. The loose chain ends chipped the hell out of the wheel wells the first time, had to really tuck the ends in to prevent it.

CO can enact a chain law per the codot website requiring passenger vehicles to put on chains. I wonder how often this even happens though. Maybe u know this but the post sounds like you didn't so adding for clarity.

I saw those they seem cool for a car, I’m mainly worried about complying with Co and Mt chain laws.

I’ve seen some videos about these newer self tensioning chains, seem real easy to put on vs the drive over ones, these you drape and make connections, some don’t even have connections ??‍♂️

On my RAV4, I've got dank snow tires and paddle shift that kick ass in the snow.

Just in case though, I carry a shovel and cable chains that lasso on quickly.

With a little practice you can slap a set of cable chains on fast as shit. My first few seasons in Oregon I was still in my rear wheel drive G35. My cable chain game was on point. Like under 5 minutes from stopping to done. Then I bought snow tires and never looked back.
 
My car has studded snow tires and never wished for more traction. I also drive a little cross over suv not a moving truck so I guess it depends on your vehicle.

Where do you live that's reasonable to run studs nowadays?
 
^^ im in idaho. i had to give some coworkers and friends rides around town cus the roads were so bad, let alone to the ski hill.

wrx with a blizzaks. absolute tank.
