Sneaking onto Mammoth

and then what happens if everyone has this attitude?

theres no more paying customer

you know what that means?

NO SKIING

why dont u just go build a rail and put it in the woods

too bad the songs sounds like they're being played through a telephone because the quality is so bad haha

OP: stealing is wrong, If you cant afford to go skiing, then dont.

I feel the pain for cheap skiing.

But the sad fact is liftopia is the only place to really offer cheaper skiing for planned excursions or hills offering deals (usually midweek).

You deny the resorts money that they need to invest in to faster lifts, more lifts, expansion of hills. Picture that.

They only take your money and reinvest it. Sure a lot of it is shennanigans. expensive restaurants, spas or whatever the fuck it is. But you can only hope that the new funbox is because of you coming there and throwing down $80.

I can't imagine spending $80 on a lift ticket, but I can't imagine having 3000-4000 vertical in my backyard or something either.

skiing on a mountain and stealing a car isn't the same so how about we all just stoping using that comparison, try using a comparison that's atleast close to the price of a lift ticket and I'm pretty sure that big resorts have more money than you think things aren't ran on as tight of budgets as you think I mean yeah they're probably gonna try to spend less to make more that's what i'd do regardless of how much money I had. This sport is expensive, I'm pretty sure all of us know that after all the money we've spent on gear and gas money to get to the places to ride but that shouldn't mean we shouldn't do it just because don't really wanna spend the prices they have set for lift tickets. I've paid for lift tickets and I've also poached mountains so it doesn't really matter to me which anyone does, just go out and have some fun skiing

First hoping a lift without a ticket is stealing period....no different from shop lifting, stealing a car, or sneaking on an airline flight, it's all stealing from someone else.

Yes Mammoth turns a profit and is owned by two large companies. However, most of the money the hill makes is used to improve the hill. Do you know how much a new high speed lift costs? At a min $4 mil, and they don't put in cheap short ones there, the new cloud 9 lift cost 6.5 million to put in. Resorts like Mammoth don't turn a huge profit on the hill it's usually less than the smaller local ones....why is that? Cause they are resorts, the hill is there to fill hotel rooms and sell condos and that's where they make the money.

If you can't afford the ticket save your money till you can. Poor college kid is no different than poor working stiff.

To every single person in this thread who has agreed with the analogy that poaching a mountain for a day is the equivalent of stealing a BMW or AUDI; YOU ARE FUCKING RETARDED. Can someone please logically explain to me how poaching 50-90$ worth of lift tickets is the same as stealing a 20,000 to 40,000$ car. Its not. I dont even want to go into length of how fucking wrong this analogy is. Stop trying to back this argument up it does not work and you only continue to make yourselves look more incompetent by the minute.

All the kid asked for was a little help and you guys came in here and just bitched the shit out of him and turned this thread into a flame war which is the exact way 95% of all threads on NS now end up. If you have nothing related to the topic to say or anything good to say for that matter, then please DONT SPEAK AT ALL.

You go 15 times without paying. 83 x 15 = $1245

You bring 5 friends with each time. Thats $6000 a season.

You might not be stealing a lump sum, or a large ticket item. But you are committing a petty theft that over time will add up to whatever....

You steal from Audi you hurt their profit margins. Hell probably less, because they can just call AIG and have the car replaced for free with your tax dollars.

You steal from the mountain...they raise lift ticket prices even more to compensate for loss revenue. They can't call AIG, but they can call the police, press charges, and ban you from the mountain.

Picture yourself as the business owner who has to pay everyone.......your $83 is important.

Actually if you do the math it's pretty equal $83 from a much smaller pool than a 40k from a massive pool On average large ski resorts do 30-50 mil in revenue a year....audi group did a little over 23 billion last year. So it's actually less of a hit to poach the list in terms of total revenue.

Either what it's still stealing

Obviously you don't know how to read. I said I'm a broke college student (who happens to be majoring in business dick!). That being said I know exactly how a business runs and know that it would not hurt mammoth one bit. Their fixed costs are already set in place no matter what I do.

Intrawest who owns a shit load of resorts, including 11 mountains, brings in $1.61 billion a year. I don't think they're gonna miss $86 that much. Do some reading before you open your mouth

Actually ski resorts are on 100% fixed costs...the more people that ride the lifts the more wear and tear they take. So you are hitting the bottom line some. Rationalize it all you want, it's still stealing.

I love college kids that think they know how the world works because they learned about it in class. If it's ok for you to do it then why not everyone? I sure would like to not have to pay to ride the lifts. Hell maybe they should turn into a charity.

You are a dumbass if you major in business, and think a company will not miss $83.

The whole point is to make as much money as possible running a business for all stakeholders.

You must have missed that day in class huh? The part about how you are supposed to charge your customers to turn over a profit.

I don't care how big either company is, you are still stealing.

I bet you would also think taking candy isn't a crime because fuck it...its only some cheap candy from a big corporation?

You fail at business.

You are the NS member I hate the most out of anybody on this site. You are legitimately a fucking a moron. And to top everything off you are only 13 if i remember correctly.

Thread Creator. I think your best bet is to buy a ticket from somebody in the parking lot. Resorts are easy to poach if you know what you're doing. Just be smart about it. Another thing you can do is if a friend of yours has a seasons pass up at Mammoth, you can ask them to go into guest services and say they forgot their season pass and to ask for a complimentary day pass. Get him to give you the day pass and he can keep using his seasons pass.

Intrawest sold their majority holdings to Starwood Capital Group. Starwood Capital Group is the current majority owner.

Wow, some of you guys are fucking retarded.

Stealing is bad no matter how you look at it, don't try to justify yourself, in the end you are taking something that is not yours.

As for downloading music, I don't, it's not my music, why would I just steal it? Sure it would be nice to have some more tracks but not at somebody elses expense.

Fucking business majors, just because you have taken some 300 level classes and job shadowed some local business owning douche doesn't mean you know shit about how a business works.
FYI, you really think most of VR's revenue comes from day to day to services? Try real estate/hotels. They just try to break even with the resort itself. Mammoth is hurting this year, that is why they brought back the MVP pass.

And by seeing that you ski sierra summit, I'm assuming you go to CSU Fresno. I really don't need to talk shit about you there, you already know how stupid you are. Enjoy your life in the central valley.
