Small town vibes

I like it so far. I enjoyed the convenience of a city like salt lake but hated the congestion and how pricey everything is

For some reason my post got cut a bit, my town is about 30k people and everything is within 10 mins drive, plus plenty of places to eat out and shop at if I want to, can't go back to the big smoke life

30k is bigger than my hometown lmao, except I was on the beach not the mountains and for some reason no one ever wanted to vacation there or visit so it was sick

I live in a town of 800. But I’m 40 minutes from Boise so I have all the nice perks of small town life like walking to work, not dealing with traffic, general overstimulation, etc. while still having the amenities and social life of a city in reach.

It's a mixed bag. It's nice not having neighbors, there's not an insane amount of traffic compared to where I grew up, the lifestyle is super laid back and the access to really good skiing/hiking is plentiful up here in northern NY. On the flip side the poverty up here is nuts and the access to quality good paying jobs is few and far between. I basically have to drive over an hour and a half each way to vermont every day just to make a decent wage and even then a lot of my money goes back into gas and maintenance on my car. Where I live it's at least a 20 minute drive to any sort of entertainment and grocery store. Businesses are constantly coming and going because there's no money to sustain their business so we rarely have anything new and when we do it's for a few years at most. There's trade offs to both lifestyles but for me I like living the small town life, it just took some getting used to.

The rural poverty thing is real sad. Got a lot of people in my town living out of campers, houses that wouldn’t pass code where I grew etc. The amount of comers and goers is really high too. People show up and then leave at a pretty high turnover.

That’s one thing about America that always brings me down to earth. That there are places, particularly in the E NE, that are as third world as they come. I’ve seen shanty towns in South Africa that don’t look as impoverished as some of the places in Appalachia

Where abouts? Curious, I grew up in Boise I know that area well.

I personally like bigger cities, maybe salt lake is an exception but having the amenities of the city with the mountains so close is a nice relationship.

Horseshoe Bend. First town you drive through on your way to McCall.

my assumption is that most people who live there drive into Boise for work, am I wrong?

Very nice, I am familiar. My Fiancé was born in Donnelly her grandpa started and operated the sports marina there in McCall for many years. We met in Boise. We live in southern California now, I miss that area.

Yeah, some of that, there’s a few gainful employment chances in town, and a lot of people scraping by.

It's a cool overcast day with a 6/10 smell of farts in the air over here in Columbus. Wanna trade?

Yeah ever since covid, this place has been a mess. Homelessness up the wazoo. Thousands of illegal migrants now being given rental cars. Ive had friends get hit by them while driving. Its a microcosm of every major US city right now. Just a complete shit show.

Lived in a town of 1200 my whole life other than my college life. Luckily my college is about half an hour away and I spend most of my time there. Couldn't do a larger town. Even being at school I cannot stand people. Moving to Wyoming in a town with like 15000 people but because it is wyoming I am thinking I'll be ight lol

One thing I’ve noticed is that people from small towns tend to all know each other and have really interconnected social circles. I lived in a bigger city for awhile where you could walk to all the bars and the nightlife was busy but it was like you’d never see the same people twice and it was always so loud and packed it was very anonymous. We’re about to move out to a town of 1200 I hope the locals don’t hate me you know how people get weird about their towns sometimes but I think it will be chill.

small towns are less then 7k if its a good size land area. Real small town is more like 3.5k or less but if you below 200 that just sounds isolating unless your about that.
