Small Kidney Tear

Ended up getting a grade 1 laceration on my kidney the other day. Got fully checked out at the ER and was in the hospital for 15 hrs getting checked out and everything else turned out ok. No real guidelines were given except not really doing anything that physical for 4-6 weeks.

Unfortunately/fortunately it is dumping snow in Tahoe and Mammoth over the next week and I’m trying to get out there as soon as possible. Thinking of trying to cut recovery a week short and go back out in 3 weeks but unsure if it is technically safe or am I overthinking it? First few days back obviously not going to ski 100% but could still take a spill regardless.

Anyone have experience with this injury/slamming again after?

Trust the ER nurses and docs. Kidneys filter blood and can be prone to some nasty stuff if it tears + internal bleeding and shock. Lay low and chill.

Probably best to lay low and chill like others said. No need to go mess yourself up worse and risk your future years of skiing over a few days. Grab some crutches, wrap up your leg like it is hurt and go chill at the lodge...you will be busy with all the ladies instead.

Edit to say: Vibes for a speedy recovery, get healed up to 100%

Lmaooooooooooo no one is gonna reassure you that this is a good idea. This is quite possibly the dumbest fucking post of the month. Your docs who have access to you entire medical chart and knowledge have wayyyy more credibility than some cheeto eating mfers on a keyboard

You do you tho. Good luck lol

Truth was just feeling overzealous with the storms rolling through. Will just wait it out the extra week and not be an idiot.

Goin thru a similar situation rn with a broken back and lung and I can promise you it’s better to just wait it out. I skied 4 weeks earlier than I should have, took a small slam and almost hurt myself again.

It's all good. See too many people on here asking similar questions about injuries. Not worth ruining your life for a pow day. There will be more

I’d probably wait it out, no point in risking worsening the situation and possibly putting your life in danger. There will be plenty more pow days in Tahoe and Mammoth but in the very small chance you die as a result of injuring your kidney again then there will never be another pow day for you.
